VickySales Specialist at the Inspiring Travel Company
I started in the travel industry at 16, joining a modern apprentice scheme with my local travel agent. I’ve been in the industry for the past 20 years, but every day still excites me like the first day I started.
I always wanted to travel. Ever since I remember, I always loved looking at holiday brochures when my parents were booking our annual holidays. I listened to the travel agent in awe of how much she knew about the different destinations and promised myself, “I will do that one day”! Fast forward twenty years and I am in my dream job, passing on my knowledge and passion and, hopefully, inspiring other people to see the best the world has to offer.
I have been extremely lucky in my career to see and experience some breathtaking countries and hotels, but one of my stand-out moments was travelling to Boston and New England. I managed to take in a Redsox game, whale watching in Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and eat lobster in the world’s best place to eat lobster!
Favourite destination: Greece
The laid-back life…Yammas! The Greeks have such a friendly and homely service style. Whether you’re visiting a five-star resort or a local Greek coffee bar, I always feel relaxed in their company. I love visiting local towns and watching the Greek men playing cards outside a café, or strolling down to the markets where ladies are making lace products. The Greeks also have the most amazing food; as well as typical Mediterranean style fresh fish and salads, they have their own specialities such as baklava, which is to die for!
Favourite hotel: Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort
I arrived at this hotel at around 6pm to be greeted with the view over the bay at sunset. My jaw dropped. I have never seen a sunset like it - it was stunning and I will never forget how beautiful it was.
The hotel is set on the beach where the film Shirley Valentine was filmed. On my first night at dinner, the waiter mentioned this to me and I said I hadn’t seen the film. When I returned to my room, a copy of the DVD was waiting for me. This was a real personal touch that made me fall in love with this gem of a hotel.
Service Commitment From You
I will always provide honest advice. I will listen to what experience you want from your trip and make it happen as best I can. I may not have been to every single destination myself, but will always promise to find out the answer to any question you may have from somebody who has.
Your Top Tips for Travellers
- If you can, get smaller denominations in local currency. It always helps for tips or for bottles of water in smaller airports that may not have card machines or big shops.
- Invest in a camera. Phones have great cameras these days, but I always find I get distracted by texts or social media. Try to digital detox, even for a day, whilst away and capture memories the old-fashioned way.
- Always take mosquito bite cream. Even if you don’t get bitten normally, different climates and countries may catch you out, so save in advance on expensive pharmacy visits!
