2018 marks 30 years of Seabourn, the ultra-luxury cruise line renowned for elegant ships and top-class service. And after three decades, there are still lots of new features and innovations to discover at sea, as Other Shores Feature Writer Kumari Tilakawardane found out…
With personalised service, stylish interiors, world-class dining, breathtaking worldwide destinations and the newest ultra-luxury fleet in the industry, it’s no surprise that Seabourn is renowned as one of the very top names in luxury cruising.
For the last 30 years, guests onboard Seabourn vessels have enjoyed an atmosphere that feels more like a private social club than an overseas cruise. Indeed with Seabourn, you’re not merely a passenger, you’re a club member; and this club includes fine dining at mealtimes, provides an array of entertainment and stocks your suite’s bar with your favourite tipple ahead of time.
Carefully planned cruise itineraries visit all seven continents, and Seabourn’s partnership with UNESCO means you’ll be taken to some of the world’s most incredible places; more than 170 World Heritage Sites have been included so far. Award-winning lyricist Tim Rice is also a partner of Seabourn. An Evening with Tim Rice presents a selection of Rice’s most famous and celebrated songs and introduces guests to the story behind each one.
A seemingly endless list of international accolades attests to the sheer quality of Seabourn’s offerings. And really, what’s not to love? Staying in all-suite all-ocean view accommodation while visiting some of the world’s most spectacular places onboard some of the world’s most exceptional ships… this is a club you’ll definitely want to join.
Inspiring Travel Company’s Shelley Berkhoff recently travelled onboard Seabourn Encore, and was impressed with the Seabourn experience. “I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the world’s finest hotels, and I can honestly say that the Encore can compete with the best of them. The UNESCO partnership is really special; in Pisa we were given a guided tour of the historic city walls – parts of which are normally off-limits to visitors. While we were walking around people were asking to join the tour, but it was exclusively for Seabourn guests. We truly felt like VIPs! This was how we were made to feel throughout our cruise by the amazing staff who provide personalised service for each and every guest. I can’t wait to set sail again.”
At the end of 2016, Seabourn raised the bar again for luxury cruising with the launch of Seabourn Encore, the natural evolution from the Seabourn Odyssey vessels; bigger, with more space, additional luxury suites and new, fabulous onboard experiences. In 2018 sister-ship Seabourn Ovation will be launched, offering guests another sophisticated nautical experience. Both ships were designed by master designer Adam D. Tihany and form part of the most modern ultra-luxury fleet in cruising.

Elsewhere onboard, guests will be able to get their hands on stylish commemorative merchandise and a special edition wine collection.
