This beautiful country hugs the Adriatic coastline and offers a fascinating mixture of cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery. Not yet a 'go-to' destination for luxury family holidays, Croatia can offer surprising value in some of the Europe's most picturesque surrounds. With some 1,185 islands of her coast, we'd recommend at least one family boat trip, and exploring the Roman ruins that abound here has to be high on the list too!

Not far from the historic town of Rovinj, Hotel Monte Mulini offers the perfect mix of elegance and family-friendly facilities for a luxury Croatia holiday. Water-babies will love the outdoor freshwater swimming pool complex, which comprises four outdoor pools (including a designated children's pool) and covers 400 square metres! This laid-back island is often hailed as the 'Queen of the Caribbean', and Nevis is certainly a charming place and the perfect location for a luxury family holiday. Whether you just want to flop on the unspoilt sands or get active and climb 3,232 feet to the top of Nevis Peak, you'll find that there's space to stretch out and enjoy! Oman may not be the 'go to' Middle East holiday destination that her glittering neighbour states of Dubai and Abu Dhabi are, but don't let that fool you; a luxury family holiday here is a jewel in itself. Though there's plenty to occupy all ages year-round, we'd recommend you avoid the summer months as the intense heat will undoubtedly lead to plenty of melt downs from little ones (and maybe a few from you!) Half terms, though, especially February and October are ideal as the weather is warm but not oppressive.

Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Al Waha, has a location that makes the most of Oman's striking landscapes. Malaysia is a sprawling nation whose natural beauty knows no bounds, yet it somehow it is often overlooked in favour of its more popular neighbour, Thailand. Langkawi, an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman sea, is an especially enthralling region with plenty of memory-making days out on offer. For an exciting ride with an amazing view take the Langkawi Skycab; the world's steepest cable car rising to 708 metres above sea level. Another family favourite is Langkawi Bird Paradise Wildlife Park, where you can meet colourful birds and feed giant fish!

Where should we stay?

There are a number of great choices for a family holiday to Malaysia, including Four Season's Resort Langkawi, which also features the group's signature 'Kids for All Seasons' club and a host of indulgent facilities. A special mention must be made, though, for The Andaman, A Luxury Collection Resort, which sits upon Datai Bay; a beach so picturesque that it has been named the 9th Best Beach in the World by none other than the National Geographic! As a family, you can participate in inspiring activities to grow new coral at the resort’s unique Coral Nursery, or trek the gentle, 450m trail to Crystal Cove; a quiet jungle stream that cascades down from the mountain into a natural pool for swimming. Bliss.

8. Zambia

Why Zambia?

This beautiful Southern African nation boasts a host of truly special family holiday experiences to be enjoyed. Of course, there's the iconic landmark of Victoria Falls, one of the world's most impressive waterfalls and the marker of the Zambia-Zimbabwe border. Not far from here is the National Park Mosi-oa-Tunya, where you might be lucky enough to spot giraffes and zebras! For an afternoon snack, take tea at one of the hotels; high tea is a well-loved tradition in Zambia.

Where should we stay?

The Royal Livingstone is an elegant hotel on the banks of the Zambezi within walking distance of Victoria Falls, and guests receive unlimited complimentary access to the waterfall through the hotel's private entrance.
