Working at the Inspiring Travel Company I have been lucky enough to have visited a number of Caribbean islands, but I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally see St Lucia and wow did it all impress!
It is very different from any other island I have visited in the Caribbean, with such contrasting atmospheres, from the lively north to the more tranquil south, not to mention the amazing landscapes! Seeing the twin peaks of the volcanic mountains, the Pitons and the lush green rainforest on our descent to the island (in a little propeller plane) felt like such a treat. It was just so dramatic and beautiful.
On St Lucia, speaking to the locals and watching how passionate they were about their island was amazing. There are so many adventures to be had on this island from rainforest canopy walks to a visit to the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival; an internationally renowned event that happens annually each May.
Of course, the luxury hotels and resorts certainly did not disappoint! I think my favourite adventure of the trip was our arrival to Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, by speedboat and docking up between the Grand and Petit Pitons as they towered over us, it was breathtaking! This 5-star resort didn't stop impressing me there. The Cane Bar provides a funky setting for an evening drink, and cocktails here are a 'must'. The Rainforest Spa certainly lives up to its name too; it really does feel like you're in the middle of a tropical paradise. Well, I suppose you are actually!
Another resort with incredible views of the Pitons is Anse Chastanet, a beautifully positioned 600-acre property with a strong commitment to its St Lucian identity and a very loyal staff, some of whom have worked there for over 20 years.
For something truly special, maybe a St Lucia luxury honeymoon, I can tell you Jade Mountain is a slice of paradise, set high up within the wider Anse Chastanet resort. Its position means you'll find the best views of the Pitons on the island, and probably the most seclusion too. The jaw-dropping suites have no fourth wall, just a private infinity edge pool that seems to drop off into the Caribbean Sea far below. It honestly feels like you're sitting on a cloud and you're never overlooked by a single soul!
Another deeply romantic setting is the adult-only Rendezvous resort. The Champagne Bar and Elemis Spa with gorgeous couple's treatment rooms are enough to make this another fab choice for honeymooners. That's before you even get to the beautiful beachfront rooms and cottages; I'd recommend a Verandah Suite for a truly luxurious option.
Of course there's a lot for families on sunny St Lucia too, with loads going on for children, especially around Easter time. I visited Windjammer Landing on the island's north-western side, and thought of family fun as soon as I saw the water trampoline and climbing frame in the bay! Ranging from grand three and four-bedroom Estate Villas to the spacious Premium Ocean View Rooms, there's sure to be an accommodation option to suit your group size and budget.
If health and wellbeing is more your thing then a luxury break at The BodyHoliday will be perfect. I couldn't believe the fantastic range of activities at this destination spa, from yoga to archery, and the attention to detail in the many wellbeing and detox programmes. Every guest staying here gets one complimentary spa treatment per day, so you're sure to leave feeling like a new you! The healthy menus are also delicious, as I found out when dining at Blue, one of the resort's four restaurants.
I had many fantastic dining experience while on the island. Capella Marigot Bay is a newly opened hotel in a beautiful marina position, with many restaurants and boutiques a stone’s throw from your spacious accommodation. My top tip would be to book a table at Rain Forest, one of the best places to eat on the island and just across the way from this hotel. Rum tasting at Capella's own Rum Cave is also an absolute 'must'!
If you fancy lunch in a stunning beach location you'll find beautiful surrounds at the Naked Fisherman Beach Bar and Grill within the Cap Maison resort, where the stunning views at The Cliff at Cap Restaurant also make for an incredible setting at breakfast, lunch or dinnertime.
That's just a few of the luxury St Lucia resorts we offer at the Inspiring Travel Company.
