In a classic case of saving the best til last, my final trip of 2019 culminated in a two-night stay at The Bvlgari Resort & Residences Dubai. Right from my arrival, I could tell that this peaceful oasis was going to be something rather special… and boy did it prove to be a very hard place to leave!
Located on its own island, this exclusive enclave offers sumptuous accommodation across 101 rooms, suites and villas in the most fabulous of settings. From the moment you step into the lobby, there is an immediate sense of calm and serenity. Hustle and bustle have no place at the Bvlgari Dubai. You have arrived here to relax and recharge in ultra-luxurious surroundings without any real need to leave the property unless you particularly want to.
In some respects, the word ‘resort’ is a bit misleading; this is not an overwhelming metropolis of a hotel, it has much more of a boutique feel. The rooms and suites are spread over four floors – unusual for low-rise Dubai – which certainly makes the place feel more intimate. That said, there is no shortage of facilities on site: six restaurants, three pools, a spa, a kids’ club and a beautiful stretch of beach mean that all the elements are in place for those looking to have a truly relaxing, indulgent and luxurious holiday.
If you were to ask me my highlights, I would probably pick out three things in particular about my stay here: the décor, the beach and the location.
The word I would use to sum up the style of the Bvlgari Dubai is most definitely ‘sophisticated’. The artwork on display is a mixture of striking black-and-white photos of models and glitterati contrasted with colourful drawings of Bvlgari jewellery. Inside the guestrooms, my favourite touches included the stunning cashmere tan blanket, the white Bvlgari trunk (that is actually home to the mini-bar) and the large daybed on the balcony which is the perfect base for a lazy ‘in room’ breakfast or night-time apéritif sipped while taking in the views.
The reason I particularly loved the beach here was that it feels very private and exclusive. The long stretch of sand means that there is plenty of space to not feel like you are on top of other guests. Furthermore, the water tends to be flat calm in this protected bay, so you can happily cool off from the sun without fear of being overwhelmed by the waves.
Location, Location, Location
Location wise, the Bvlgari Dubai has hit the jackpot. Within an easy drive of around 10-15 minutes, you can be in downtown Dubai enjoying the famous mall, fountains and restaurants; and yet, the hotel is tucked away from all the bustle and you really do feel like you are a million miles from the craziness of the city whilst you are on the property. What’s more, the orientation of the hotel means that the views of the Dubai skyline are absolutely out of this world. The views of the fireworks on New Year’s Eve are said to be second to none and are a big reason that this hotel sells out way in advance for stays over 31 December – definitely one for the bucket list!
All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a top-class stay in sophisticated and calm surroundings. If you are looking for a high energy party buzz then this is probably not the place for you, but if you want to be in the lap of luxury with ultra-comfortable surroundings and easy access to some buzz as and when you want it then this is most definitely the right choice for your stay in Dubai.
