A luxury tour of Riviera Maya, Mexico!

As I sit in Cancun Airport waiting for my flight back home, I can't help but reflect on what an inspiring time I've just spent Mexico. As a Travel Specialist at the Inspiring Travel Company, I have the privilege of visiting our world-class hotels and resorts all over the world. All of this, of course, is so I can come back and tell you all about it. So, here goes!

Luxury in Cancun

Upon arrival in Cancun, we were just in time to watch the sun set, which was a beautiful way to start the trip. Our first stop was Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa, just a 35-minute transfer from the airport. I was immediately wowed by the luxurious surrounds of our Oceanfront One-Bedroom Suite. The first thing we did was take a dip our own private plunge pool on the rooftop!

Belmond really celebrates the culture of Mexico and the whole resort has a low-key, relaxed feel, with outstanding service and amazing food. I'm not surprised that the property gets clients who just keep returning year on year; or even more often than that! We found proof of the loyalty inspired in repeat visitors at Freddy's Tequila and Ceviche Bar, where one bar stool is 'permanently reserved' for Arnie; a guest who had his name carved into it following his 50th stay!

So much to do in Riviera Maya!

Our whole trip was spent in the Riviera Maya region, which stretches from Cancun to Tulum. It is such a beautiful part of Mexico and if ever you tire of the plentiful white sandy beaches, then there is so much else to do. We went on an amazing day of quad biking followed by a cooling swim in vast caves, which were just beautiful.

Of course an absolute 'must do' whilst here is a visit to one or more of the major Mayan archaeological sites.  From our hotel, it only took one hour to drive to Tulum - the only Mayan site with a sea view. It was absolutely jaw-dropping and we were lucky enough to have a brilliant guide provided by Journey Mexico; he was so knowledgeable that he was nicknamed professor by the other guides! If you want to visit Chichen Itza too then it's only three hours by car, or you could even charter a private plane or helicopter there. If you book with ITC, our Concierge service will be happy to arrange any transfers and tours you'd like before you travel.

Exclusive Mayakoba

Next, we visited the impressive luxury enclave of Mayakoba; a beautiful stretch of land, with stunning coastlines and lush mangroves which includes three fantastic resorts; Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Rosewood Mayakoba and Fairmont Mayakoba. My fellow Travel Specialists and I will be happy to speak to you in depth about the different personalities and offerings of each property here, but something you're guaranteed wherever you choose to stay is wonderful scenery and white sandy beaches. Each resort offers car and boat shuttles between the hotels so there is a fabulous choice of restaurants too.

Last but not least...

Towards the end of our stay I was also lucky enough to experience the authentic Mexican ambience at Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, an intimate all-inclusive resort where all accommodation is ocean-facing. Our final stop was at NIZUC Resort & Spa, a fantastic new property near Cancun. The hotel just 10 minutes transfer from the airport, which is a real plus after a long flight! This also means great access to Cancun whilst still being far enough away to feel peaceful and relaxed. I loved the feel of the place too, with far eastern references in the decor and architecture, it has a similar appearance to a Aman property, but on a larger scale.

Fantastic food and service

I can't tell you about Mexico with mentioning the fabulous food and service that we enjoyed absolutely everywhere! Whether at one of the hotels or a local restaurant, the flavours and presentation were wonderful. So, I did travel home with a slight tighter waistband, but it was well worth it! The standard of the food was matched by great service too. Everywhere we went the welcome felt warm and genuine, staff are keen to ensure that you have everything you need, and nothing is too much trouble.

I really loved this trip and will be returning soon; I'm already planning my luxury Mexico holiday next year with the family!
