I first visited Petit St Vincent many years ago, so my memory was somewhat faded of my first experience there. But naturally when I was asked to return, I was thrilled and excited by the opportunity.
For me, ‘PSV’ represents the epitome of barefoot luxury, an oasis where you escape to relax from the stresses of everyday life and modern technology.
The best way to get there is via Barbados with a short 45-minute flight to Union Island, where I was met by the PSV private yacht to whisk me away to this stunning private island. The crossing was fairly choppy, but as the island gradually got closer, I couldn’t wait to kick off my shoes and enjoy the resort facilities and some ‘me’ time!
There are 22 luxury cottages situated on 115 acres of lush vegetation and landscape. Some have their own direct beach access, whilst others, like my cottage, was situated higher up with stupendous views of the sea and coastline. The cottages are spacious, style in keeping with local influences and I even had my own hammock and private terrace with an outdoor shower.
What I loved most about the cottages is that they really offer seclusion and privacy and you can shut yourself away for days without being bothered. They have a flag pole system outside the front gate with a yellow and red flag; for ‘service’ and ‘do not disturb’!
The island itself is naturally beautiful and you can do as much or as little as you like. I enjoyed my walks around the island with not a soul about, cycling along the paths and had time to pop into the spa for a well-deserved massage to relax me even more! Alternatively, you can enjoy an early morning yoga session on the beach.
As for the food, well what can I say? I am a fan of seafood and I was truly spoilt here. In fact, I was practically in heaven! The freshest lobsters served on a barbecue on the beach with a glass of wine… I couldn’t have been happier.
If you’re keen on snorkelling or diving, this can easily be arranged, with some amazing coral reached by boat. Or you may just want to hire a private yacht and laze on board sipping champagne for a few hours whilst watching the sunset. Virtually everything is possible at PSV.
I highly recommend a dose of PSV to soothe the soul. Just remember to switch off your mobile, detach yourself from the world and enjoy the calmness and tranquillity of what this secluded Island offers every guest. You won’t be disappointed.
