With its stunning views, verdant landscape and year-round warm weather, Madeira is a fabulous destination for a short-haul, sunshine-filled luxury holiday.
Arguably the most glamorous address in Madeira, Belmond Reid’s Palace has a history dating back to 1891 and was famously Winston Churchill’s hotel of choice. High-ceilings and marble detailing are just two examples of period features that give the hotel an atmosphere of classic sophistication.
Last year a programme of improvements and renovations refreshed the chic surrounds, at once updating the hotel’s look and retaining the old-world charm for which it is renowned. In partnership with London-based designers Wimberly Interiors, Belmond Reid’s Palace has achieved this balance perfectly.
Returning guests will be immediately struck by the changes made to the hotel’s grand entrance and lobby, which has been was one of the main focusses of the improvements. Classic panelled walls have been painted in a fresh white, beckoning the light in, whilst historic black and white photos in mismatched frames are close-hung above art-deco style furniture, mixing the trendy with the traditional to great effect. Continuing the theme of bringing the outside in, potted lemon trees, palms and local flora adorn the entrance too. All this is set off by glistening marble floors; the epitome of sophistication.
Stroll through the majestic lobby and out to the terrace, where clifftop views out over the Atlantic Ocean can be enjoyed and a traditional afternoon tea is served daily; a ‘must do’ experience whilst staying here.
Another major improvement is the restyling of the Pool Terrace. Previously open for lunch-only, this stylish eatery will now be the breakfast area for guests and serve drinks and light meals throughout the day. You can be seated outdoors or inside, where vaulted ceilings and locally crafted tableware creates a charming and authentically Madeiran effect. The hotel’s previous breakfast venue, the Garden Room, has also been transformed into a versatile space that can be used for events, conferences and receptions.
