COLUMBIA BEACH RESORT CYPRUS REVIEWED

Stephanie Edwards | 11 Sep, 2014

Located a short 25 minutes transfer from Paphos Airport we arrived late evening at the picturesque Columbia Beach Resort, Pissouri Bay. Being the first week in September and with many children travelling home to start their first week back in school, this once family filled resort soon adopted a more tranquil and calmer atmosphere, in which couples and families with toddlers were in the majority; the perfect choice for a late summer, sunny getaway with my other half.

Occupying an Executive Suite, room 2812 overlooked the beautiful deep blue swimming pool beneath and had by far one of the most spacious balconies of the lot; not only that but at this particular time of the year our terrace certainly stole the very last of the resort’s sunshine and we enjoyed many a cocktail in the early evening watching the sun go down - a super ending to any day spent soaking up the rays in this typically Cypriot resort.

The resort’s facilities, which were especially suited to our personal requirements, included the gourmet restaurant Bacchus, which was a delicious Italian, and excellent both in cuisine and service along with on-site watersports including wakeboarding, waterskiing, jet skis and pedalos which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were lucky enough to make use of the spa and I opted for an Indian Head Massage which I would highly recommend. Open throughout the day for guests to use at their leisure, the spa includes a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and a very cold plunge pool which was bracing but equally perfect to cool down after a full day basking in the late summer sun. The spa pool was open to all during the morning, accessible directly from the outside pool but available only to spa users thereafter.

On the south-west side of the island the beaches here are typically shale and coarse, white sands which - with a good pair of water shoes purchased from the local shop - wasn’t a problem. The resort also provides sea access via a floating jetty to avoid having to tackle the potentially rocky entry!

This fantastic holiday was one to remember, and some distinctive memories will remain as follows (most of which, shamelessly, involve good food!)… Greek salads and moussaka at the hotel’s Apollo restaurant, star gazing from the beach, shelling pistachio nuts on our emperor sized balcony, Limanaki taverna in neighbouring Pissouri Village, the stunning view up the rocky coast from our favourite pool side loungers. The ideal resort for families, groups of friends, sun seekers and watersports enthusiasts.
