Earlier today the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge landed down in New Zealand to begin their first official tour with Prince George.
The region makes for a stunning part of the world to visit, and is particularly well-suited to hosting families with young children like the royals.
If you’ve been inspired to venture to New Zealand like William and Kate, take a look at some of the fabulous hotels and resorts which you could stay in on your own ‘royal tour’ of this beautiful region:
The Intercontinental Wellington is a great spot from which to explore this vibrant city. This modern hotel is well-placed by the harbour, with the Wellington Botanic Gardens nearby. The Duke and Duchess will begin and end their tour of the country in its capital.
Rumour has it that the royal couple could be spending a few nights at the luxurious Wharekauhau Country Estate overlooking Palliser Bay. This grand lodge has sumptuous décor, open fireplaces and a warm, relaxing feel. With plenty of space and well-thought out details it’s the perfect place to truly kick back and escape for some utterly indulgent peace and quiet.
A stay in Blenheim is extensively enhanced by the cosy surrounds of the Timara Lodge which has its very own vineyard. Set in New Zealand’s famous wine region of Marlborough, the lodge is within 600 acres of stunning natural beauty, with its own lake, arboretum, woodland and rose garden.
Elegantly set on the waterfront, Auckland’s Mollies is a boutique hotel with luxurious qualities. A great spot from which to enjoy the water – like William and Kate who will be sailing out from the harbour – the hotel makes for a special place for a honeymoon, with its own spa, fine dining restaurant and luxurious suites.
For travellers with an eye for very special experiences, adding Huka Lodge in Lake Taupo to your bucket list is a must. This multi-award-winning hotel enjoys an unrivalled location on the edge of the Waikato River and is the perfect spot from which to explore New Zealand’s many outdoorsy attractions, including fishing, riding and white water rafting.
The young royals will be enjoying the delights of Queenstown with a white water rafting experience and wine tasting. We recommend staying at the Sofitel which celebrates this stunning country in every way; from regional dishes on the menu to its private balconies with picturesque views.
Part of the Duke and Duchess’s tour of the city of Christchurch will see them playing cricket to promote the World Cup there in 2015. A stay at The (aptly-named!) George Hotel is perfect for exploring the city, enjoying fine dining at its award-winning restaurants, or simply exploring the area’s parks and attractions on foot.
