Domes Miramare: An Expert View

Kelsey Froggett, Travel Specialist | 12 Sep, 2018

Having recently returned from a trip to Domes Miramare, A Luxury Collection Resort on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu, Inspiring Travel Company Travel Specialist Kelsey Froggett is equipped with first-hand insight and expert recommendations. Here’s what she had to share…

A History of Exclusivity

Landing in Corfu, I couldn’t contain my excitement for reaching Domes Miramare, A Luxury Collection Resort. I had heard about the ultra-glamorous history of this property – having hosted numerous royals, actors and British music idols – and that it had recently unveiled a dramatic multi-million pound renovation. Situated on Corfu’s east coast in an idyllic waterfront location, the resort is exclusively for adults, placing emphasis on its tranquillity, elegance and impeccable personal service.

After a warm welcome, we checked into our Emerald Retreat Sea View room, a light and airy accommodation with some great local furnishings as well as (of course) some incredible vistas over the shimmering Ionian Sea.

Time to Explore

Next, it was time to explore the resort. The Domes Miramare beach is made of small pebbles covered with decking, making it easy to get into the sea and avoiding the inconvenience of sandy feet! There are no pebbles in the crystal-clear, shallow water, making it ideal for paddling and swimming after soaking up the glorious Greek sunshine. If you fancy a change from the beach, the resort’s beautiful pool is just steps away, surrounded by luxurious sun loungers and still enjoying great views over the sea.

Truly embracing the sense of tranquillity that the resort, and the island as a whole, exudes, there is a strong focus on wellness at Domes Miramare. The Soma Spa boasts an exceptional menu of luxurious Elemis treatments – including massages, facials and scrubs – all overlooking the water. Whilst visiting, my other half and I indulged in a couple’s massage – the perfect way to relax after a day of adrenalin-pumping watersports! In addition, beachfront yoga is held in the charming olive garden, while a bespoke personal training service is also available.

Greek Gastronomy

This luxury resort houses three incredible eateries, each offering distinct cuisine. We enjoyed dinner at the elegant 1962 Gastronomy restaurant, serving an ever-changing menu of local and international delights using the freshest ingredients. Each of the dishes we sampled were genuinely delicious and beautifully presented.

The jewel of the dining scene here, however, has to be the Makris restaurant, showcasing an exquisite Mediterranean menu from Michelin-starred Greek chef, Tassos Mantis. An expertly handpicked wine list accompanies the incredible Corfiot cuisine with a fine-dining twist.

Raw Bar is a super-stylish hang-out that offers authentic sushi alongside exotic cocktails, all served overlooking the Ionian Sea and backed by the beats of a resident DJ. Or, if you’re chilling out beside the pool, a tasty menu of light bites can be enjoyed from the comfort of your sun lounger – bliss!

One evening, we took the recommendation of the friendly hotel staff and headed into the neighbouring resort, in search of the local Rose Garden restaurant. To say we were glad we did would be an understatement as the service and food were fantastic!

Discovering Corfu

Although, thanks to the fabulous facilities, we could have happily stayed in the resort for the entirety of the trip, we really wanted to explore the beautiful island of Corfu further. Having been collected from the hotel, we travelled 30 minutes north to the UNESCO World Heritage Corfu Town for a private walking tour. Our friendly and knowledgeable guide took us on a journey through the neo-classical town, with its majestic fortresses of Venetian origin and splendid monument and churches. We then finished our tour with delicious dinner at a local restaurant.

For another excursion, the luxurious Domes Miramare yacht took us privately to the small and perfectly picturesque Vidos Island – great for exploring, finding a spot within the rocks to throw a towel down, or simply taking in the stunning views whilst having a bite to eat at this tiny little island’s only Greek restaurant.

Overall, we had the most amazing time at Domes Miramare on the enchanting island of Corfu. From the accommodation to the service to the cuisine, everything was seamless from start to finish. Whether in a couple, with your friends or taking a trip with the parents, I would heartily recommend this resort for your next luxury escape to Greece.
