In less than two week's time Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel & Spa, Grenada, will be reopening with many fantastic new additions after a summer of upgrades. From a brand new Wellness Centre to a redesign of the all-suite accommodation, this resort will be a popular choice for this season's Grenada luxury holidays.

Grenada has a reputation for its laidback atmosphere and as the ideal place to while away sleepy days on powdery white sand beaches. While this is most certainly the case, there's also plenty to do on the 'Spice Island'. Visiting the nutmeg factories and rum distilleries are a few highlights. So too are the superb scuba sites, including one of the best diving wrecks in the Caribbean. Calabash boasts its own dive and watersports centre, so you can take full advantage of all that the glistening waters have to offer on a luxury stay here.

With all that going on, the 'off-the-beaten-track' status of this beautiful island still means there are always plenty of beautiful spots to enjoy unspoilt views and simply relax.

Spa relaxation

The brand new Wellness Centre at Calabash is the most ambitious new addition, and certainly in keeping with the island's reputation for ultimate beachside relaxation. The centre has been built around the old pool area and includes a new spa, treatment rooms, yoga pavilion, zen garden and relaxation pool.

All-suite upgrades

In terms of accommodation, it's always been an all-suite affair at Calabash, but over the summer all rooms were revamped with new furniture and soft-furnishings. Both Junior Suites and Deluxe Suites (formerly Superior Suites) have also had new bathrooms fitted, with a sleek design and indulgent features. These suites now boast a luxurious whirlpool bath and separate shower. And whichever room type you choose, you'll enjoy an 'upgrade' in complimentary toiletries too, with products by Elemis.

Beachside luxury

Not far from your luxury accommodation are the pristine sands of Prickly Beach Bay, where you can enjoy tapas bites and rum cocktails at the Bash Beach Club, which has also benefited from a chic redesign over the summer months. This isn't the only improvement to your feet-in-the-sand luxury experience either. New beach furniture can be enjoyed all the more along with the new "from your beach lounger" menu now offered.

Indeed, you could stay on the shore from dawn ‘til dusk and not miss a meal, as Calabash has also introduced an option to take breakfast on the beach. Of course, the hotel's famed breakfasts will still be served on your private balcony or verandah if you so wish. For dinner, don't miss a chance to sample the sumptuous fare at Rhodes Restaurant, headed up by celebrity chef, Gary Rhodes.

One of the outstanding features of this luxury Grenada hotel is its commitment to sustainable luxury. All upgrades were undertaken with acute environmental awareness. Energy efficiency and water conservation were a major priority in designing the new buildings, and an ingenious new system will be installed to recycle water for use in the resort's lush gardens. What's more, there's an ongoing solar-power project in progress here, making Calabash an ideal choice for those interested in luxury eco-tourism to the Caribbean.
