East Winds, a boutique beachside resort in stunning St Lucia, is a hidden treasure on the island’s north-western coast. With just 30 rooms and cottages, the atmosphere here is warm and intimate; the very definition of laidback luxury. On first glance, East Winds isn’t what you’d picture when you think of an ‘all-inclusive’ resort in the Caribbean and that’s probably because they do things a bit differently here.
After a complete refurbishment recently, which saw everything from cottage interiors to the poolside décor receive a refreshing facelift, whilst retaining all their charm, the resort is looking better than ever, so we thought this would be a great time to share with you some of our favourite ‘exclusive inclusions’ that make a stay at East Winds so unique and special…
Of course, all meals and light bites throughout the day are included here, and the quality never fails to impress. From generous breakfast buffets to four-course à la carte meals every evening, the fine fare on offer at the restaurant is mouth-watering and authentically Caribbean.
Should you been inspired by the flavours you sample while staying here, then there’s an opportunity to take a little St Lucian flair back to your kitchen at home. Each week the hotel’s chefs lead a cookery lesson where they’ll give you tips on creating your own Caribbean cuisine. Of course, there are samples to try at the end too!
Alongside sugar and spices, rum is surely one of the Caribbean’s most iconic exports. Sampling a glass or two, then, is highly recommended, and with a rum tasting once a week at East Winds bar, you have the perfect opportunity. Learn more about how the spirit is made and taste rum and rum products made in St Lucia. Is there any better way to begin the evening?
East Winds also run an exclusive excursion for guests to a distillery for an extra charge, so you can get even more into the rum culture if you wish.
Speaking of rum, there’s plenty more opportunity to savour fine spirits at East Winds!
Hone your skills at the weekly cocktail-making class, and then put them to the test at the swim-up bar at the pool. At this self-service bar guests are free to create their own cocktails from the fully-stocked selection of drinks. In fact, with such a convivial, party-style atmosphere at the resort, you’ll often find guests taking turns to play bartender, making drinks for each other throughout the day. If this doesn’t sound like your kind of thing though, don’t worry; there’s always a bartender on hand at the bar nearby.
And if this weren’t enough fun, there’s also a weekly champagne cocktail event (incidentally, champagne is available all day, every day at East Winds), where your favourite tipple can be prepared by an award-winning mixologist.
It’s not all indulgence at East Winds, and if you like to stay in shape there’s plenty of opportunity for that too. Complimentary yoga and Pilates sessions run four times a week, and there’s a state-of-the-art gym available at the wellness centre. Menus can be tailored to any dietary requirements, and fresh juices and smoothies are on offer alongside the cocktail menu!
With the Caribbean Sea just a short stroll from your cottage, or right outside your door if you opt for an Oceanfront Room, you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s easy to get out on the water at East Winds. Go sailing on a hobie cat, test your balance on a paddleboard, explore the coastline in a kayak or see the underwater world with a snorkelling session.
These activities and more are all included in your room rate, whilst additional experiences such as an exclusive sunset cruise or boat trip to the Pitons can be booked at the hotel.
Meet in the morning for a scenic walk through the surrounding natural landscapes guided by a knowledgeable staff member. This is a great way to start the day and to get your bearings. There’s also a garden tour available, in which the resort’s head gardener will take you through the difference species of plant life dotted around the beautiful grounds.
It’s not just the cocktail hours and rum tastings that make for an excellent evening experience here. Each night live music plays at the restaurant; from traditional St Lucian music and instruments to classical tunes on the Steinway piano - the only one of its kind in the entire Caribbean.
From the Bartender’s Weekly Cocktail Competition to the sensational seafood barbecue; Friday nights at East Winds are something of an institution. This beach party is exclusive to guests and takes some beating when it comes to a laidback party atmosphere. Feast, dance and soak up the fun!
That’s right, if you stay for a week or more at East Winds, you can have your wedding at the resort for no extra cost. This intimate setting is an utterly romantic and personal place to tie the knot. Ask a Travel Specialist about planning your big day at this little slice of heaven in St Lucia.
