Autumn is a beautiful time of year for travel, with balmier temperatures, great deals and seasonal changes worthy of exploring.
In Italy the arrival of fall marks the annual celebrations for the olive harvest; surely the country’s most famous export and a delicious ingredient in many of its most world-renowned dishes.
One area which is legendary for its consistently outstanding crop is Puglia, where the local agriculture focuses strongly on the production of the fruit and the oil made from it.
So we were delighted to hear from our friends over at the incomparable Borgo Egnazia that they would be treating guests* to a free ‘olive experience’ when they stay this autumn!
The Borgo Egnazia Olive Harvest will see guests taken through the ancient process of olive growing and cultivating; including picking the oil-rich fruit with local Italian farmers. In much the same way as you’d learn to distinguish Chianti from Aglianico at the resort’s Wine Academy, at the Olive Harvest you’ll be taught how to recognise different olive oils by their distinctive tastes.
The experience, which is open to adults and children alike, also allows guests of the luxury resort to explore the underground oil mill which is not normally open to the public, spend half a day at a local olive farm and also includes typical Apulian food and transfers to and from Borgo Egnazia.
With a golf course, spa, beach club, indoor pool, a kids’ club and even its own cookery school, Borgo Egnazia is a discerning choice for your next luxury short-haul holiday.
*The Borgo Egnazia Olive Harvest experience is complimentary for guests on a 4-night minimum stay in either a Corte room or a Villa.
