Inspiring Travel Company client Greg Bull fondly remembers his journey on Concorde with us to the Caribbean island of Barbados...
“My wife and I travelled with you by Concorde to the Coral Reef Club in Barbados, just two weeks after the crash in Paris.
We were extremely nervous, of course. Still, as a plane enthusiast I was more excited than anything. To feel the afterburners kick in, in pairs, as we passed Ireland – that was awesome.
I recall the seats were small, the Krug ice cold and the crab beautiful. As we approached Grantley Adams airport, the captain mentioned there was a 747 ahead of us in the landing queue – but that he’d asked Air Traffic Control to delay the plane – Concorde always took priority. We felt very important and extremely smug.
After landing we were checked by some tough looking immigration officers and their dog. ‘We just came in on the Concorde,’ I said, pointing out of the window. They grinned, skipped the search and just waved us through.
Whilst on holiday, the supersonic fleet was grounded, so we flew back first class in a new 777. It was lovely, but I’ll always remember our supersonic flight. Lots of cash but very well spent!”
