At the Inspiring Travel Company we pride ourselves on being a fair employer, a fact which has again and again seen us named a Best 100 Small Company to Work For. Some 88% of the ITC workforce is female and 90% of those are of a child-bearing age; which we like to think is proof that in 2014 women really can have it all.
It’s also why celebrating International Women’s Day is so important to us; working to “ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding”.
International Women's Day is a global event on the 8th March, celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday.
In 2014 there are now more women in the boardroom than ever before, and we’re glad that the ITC boardroom is included among those. We have a female CEO, Director and Chairwoman, and offer a very fair employment package for employees, both male and female.
Our CEO Jennifer Atkinson joined ITC in 2004 as Head of Marketing and was quickly promoted to Head of Business Development overseeing trade sales, new business and marketing/ecommerce. In January 2009 she was promoted to COO (Chief Operating Officer), supporting ITC’s founder and chairman, the late Drew Foster, in overseeing all operations of the businesses within the group. By the summer she was CEO, and when Drew sadly passed away she took the helm of the business; she was just 34.
For a young female taking the reigns of a well regarded business, she had to be twice as good as anybody else to prove her worth. Gratefully the results now speak for themselves and the business is now youthful, energetic and successful.
So it’s fair to say that every day at ITC we’re proud to share the achievements of our female workforce, but particularly so today, on International Women’s Day.
