Travel Specialist Lucy Briggs describes her recent trip to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius with the Inspiring Travel Company...
Having been lucky enough to visit the Caribbean with ITC last year I could not wait to get on that British Airways flight to Mauritius.
I was not really sure what to expect from the island. All my colleagues told me that it wasn’t even comparable to the Caribbean and they were most definitely correct.
I loved every aspect of the trip from our first drive on the island to The Four Seasons hotel, along the beautiful coastal road watching the local children getting up before sunrise to get to school, to all the wonderful facts and figures our driver was firing at us about the island.
The culture, colours and magnitude of the landscape in Mauritius was a lot to take in at 05:45am but I most certainly made the most of it! We spent the first part of our trip on the east coast of the island which is mostly known to be cooler than the west coast; but I could not fault the weather at all.
I was lucky enough to be taken out in a speed boat to the natural reef that surrounds Mauritius by the lovely gentlemen that ran the boathouse at The Residence. That was most definitely a highlight of mine and really made our trip special.
After a few days on the east coast we made our way around to the west where everybody was shocked to hear that we couldn’t really feel a temperature difference. We didn’t argue with the locals though and took their word for it! A visit to the west coast is not complete without seeing Flic-en-flacq. It has the most fantastic beach and is a really stylish part of the island.
From my time on Mauritius I feel that there are hotels to suit everyone’s needs and wants on the island; the hard part is choosing which one out of our wonderful portfolio to visit!
