A longstanding, much-loved favourite Caribbean hideaway, Malliouhana has just reopened its doors after an extensive refurbishment and we’re very excited to take a look inside! The iconic Anguilla property, part of the prestigious Auberge Resorts Collection, has undergone an almost year-long programme of rejuvenation and reopened mid-December 2018 to the delight of past guests and the excitement of future clients. Read on to discover more about the updates and to learn more about why this is such a favoured hotel…
Spectacular sea views, beautiful gardens and sophisticated glamour are just some of the reasons guests return time and time again to Malliouhana. Set over 25 acres overlooking Meads Bay, the classic resort boasts a beautiful whitewashed façade, a photogenic colour scheme inspired by local nature and plenty of first-rate facilities to boot.
A host of changes and improvements were unveiled at the resort on its grand reopening in mid-December 2018. Each of the existing 44 rooms and suites has been rejuvenated to exhibit a beautiful design by Todd Avery Lenahan, complemented by British Colonial accents, classic rattan furnishings and a bright, warming colour palette. Elsewhere, the two wonderful infinity pools are decked out with luxe cabanas, the famous Sunset Bar flaunts a new style and The Restaurant at Malliouhana is boosted by a new bar – perfect for enjoying a sundowner or two.
The Perfect Place
Malliouhana’s setting is sublime. Set between Turtle Cove and Meads Bay, the resort enjoys a convenient proximity to many of Anguilla’s best eateries (The Valley is approximately 15 minutes’ drive away) as well as plenty of tranquillity. The stretch of sand at Meads Bay is undoubtedly one of Anguilla’s best and guests enjoy direct access and there are plenty of activities on offer to help you make the most of the privileged location.
As with other luxury resorts around the world, Malliouhana promises its guests a true experience, not just a holiday. Here you might find yourself stand-up paddle boarding through crystal-clear Caribbean waters, wading through the waves on horseback, polishing your swing with a tennis pro, cycling through the lush jungle or teeing off at the nearby 18-hole CuisinArt Golf Course. If that all sounds a little too active for a retreat, why not head to The Auberge Spa (relaunching March 2019) for a rejuvenating treatment or massage?
Take a dip in one of the tiered infinity pools, dine on fresh local fare at The Restaurant at Malliouhana, or wander down to the beach for the ‘toes in the sand’ bar experience – think sun, sand and a carefully curated selection of rums, cocktails and local beers.
Rest your head
Accommodation here was already chic, stylish and totally relaxing, but the latest set of improvements has amplified this, transforming each of the 46 existing rooms and suites into a spacious and luxe "home away from home". As part of the work, a selection of new accommodation choices has also been added to Malliouhana’s offering. The 11 new beachfront suites offer sensational views, while a quartet of garden suites offer plenty of space to take in the clear blue Anguillan skies. One of the most exciting developments is the brand-new two-bedroom villa set on Turtle Cove Beach, with plush features including a private plunge pool, indoor/outdoor bathroom and effortlessly charming Caribbean-inspired décor.
