With its secluded island setting, effortless style & faultless service, it’s unsurprising that Reethi Rah is widely regarded as one of the best luxury resorts in the Maldives and a top-pick among A-list celebrities looking for isolation and indulgence. To find out what makes One&Only Reethi Rah so special, we sent Kelsey Froggett to experience the magic first-hand.
With my suitcase in hand and my mind firmly on the luxury that awaited ahead, I was eager to get to One&Only Reethi Rah as soon as I arrived at Malé International airport. Luckily, I didn’t need to wait until I got there for the extravagance to begin.
Once I had breezed through arrivals, I found a One&Only representative that was ready and waiting to take me to the docks to board the 56ft yacht that would transfer me to the island. Just 40 minutes of sun-soaked sailing later and I was already stepping on to the timber-framed docks of the island; relaxed and ready for adventure. What an introduction!
Made up of one island, about 6km in circumference, One&Only Reethi Rah is quite large as far as Maldivian resorts go and it has a mountain of different facilities to suit. As I toured around the island I kept discovering more. A pool, a football pitch, tennis courts, boutique shops, a sea-view fitness studio – it’s incredible that there are just so many facilities without it ever feeling anything except peaceful. There’s even an incredible kid’s club service where your little ones can design what they want to get up to on their holiday.
If you’re a sea or nature lover there’s also loads on offer. The house reef starts literally metres away from the Beach Club which you can explore by diving or snorkelling. The resort also provides free non-motorised watersports equipment and offer excursions to discover local sea life such as dolphins and sharks.
There really is something for everyone whether you’re on a romantic escape with your partner, an exciting break with a group of friends, or an activity-laden holiday with the kids in toe!
I was particularly impressed with the ESPA Spa. It’s just stunning and absolutely filled to the brim with One&Only’s inimitable style. Secluded within a garden in a quiet part of the resort, heading to the spa feels like an escape within an escape. Here you can really forget about the world around you as you enjoy an incredible menu of spa treatments.
As you would expect for a One&Only resort, the accommodation is also a real treat. I opted for a Beach Villa which sported direct access to the beach and an enormous outside area, which was perfect for enjoying sea views. A touch I really loved was that the vanity area even featured a small fridge so I could keep my beauty products cool. One&Only really have thought of everything to make for a truly comfortable stay.
I also had an opportunity to check out some of the other villas which range from Beach Villas, like mine, which can also come with multiple bedrooms or private pools, to Water Villas which are set on a stilted jetty extending out into the lagoon and multiple bedroom Grand Residences.
For the epitome of luxury and the utmost privacy, I’d especially recommend the Grand Sunset Residence, an enormous residential style villa set on a private road which boasts a private beach, wine cellar, private chef to cook your breakfast and even its own outdoor cinema.
Overall, I think the biggest highlight has to be the dining. There are six different restaurants on the island which each offer a different type of cuisine. One night you can have French food, and the next you can have Japanese. It’s up to you! I was absolutely in my element trying them all out, especially the wine and cheese tasting room!
For a romantic occasion, I'd recommend the Treehouse – a private dining venue with incredible views of the ocean which can be made up for a special dining event for up to two people.
