As soon as you step off of your flight in the Maldives on your way to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, you are taken care of by amazing staff. On arrival at the airport we were whisked into the luxury resort’s lounge where we waited for our seaplane transfer. Here you can watch planes arrive and take off from the comfort of large chairs or daybeds and help yourself to a selection of hot and cold snacks and drinks, or even enjoy a 15 minute back and shoulder massage; just a taster of what’s on offer in the two spas at the Conrad resort itself. Then it’s a 30-minute seaplane flight, on which you can view the dazzling Maldives from above; a sight that will stay with you!
The resort is made up of two private islands, which makes it more unusual and interesting to explore. On the main island there is a range of accommodation, including beautiful Beach Villas with large outdoor baths, as well as Family Water Villas which are positioned over the lagoon and boast two bedrooms; perfect for those with older children. It is on this island that you’ll find the majority of the resort’s eight restaurants, the watersports centre and the Majaa kids club (Majaa means ‘fun’ in the local language) so it is a perfect choice for families looking to enjoy a Maldives luxury holiday.
For something truly decadent, there’s also two-bedroom Sunset Water Villas. There are only two of these special room types in the whole resort, and they both have their own private jetty for the ultimate in privacy, plus a private kitchen where your dedicated villa host can prepare meals to your preference. As you may expect from the name, the views from these villas are sublime, the master bed even rotates to enjoy 270° views from the wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows. Now that’s the wow factor!
For couples, especially honeymooners, the smaller Rangali Island is the perfect choice. Connected to the main island by a walkway or dhoni (traditional Maldivian boat) shuttle, it has all the benefits of the wider resort, but with added intimacy. All Water Villas on Rangali Island have their own private pool and here you’ll also find the fantastic Vilu Bar, which is the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks. Not to be missed on the smaller island is the weekly Champagne and lobster evening on the beach; pure feet in the sand luxury that was a real highlight for me!
If you want to go to the Maldives and not be bored then Conrad is definitely for you. The choice of restaurants, complimentary non-motorised watersports (there are also motorised ones at a fee), excursions, themed evenings, bar complete with DJ in the evenings, plus the range of accommodation makes this one of the most diverse resorts in the region. That's without mentioning the Maldives’ first underground wine cellar and of course the iconic underwater restaurant, Ithaa!
