When our Travel Specialist, Holly Westwood, travelled to the Seychelles back in December, one resort particularly stood out. Here, she tells us why she loves North Island, and why the whole dazzling archipelago is well worth a visit...

Arriving into the Seychelles blew me away…how couldn’t it? As soon as we landed, we were greeted by our friendly gound handlers and whisked through immigration before a short taxi to the helicopter lounge. We had time to freshen up after our business class flight with Etihad Airways and have a cold drink before boarding our helicopter for a 15-minute flight to North Island. Everything ran so smoothly, which was perfect after the long journey.

Of all the incredible luxury resorts we visited, North Island really sticks in my memory. It's a highly exclusive private island where guests are provided with everything they could wish for. Arriving was my first experience in a helicopter, and I would highly recommend it, the views were simply stunning!

We were lucky enough to stay in a Presidential Villa, where rustic features offer a sense of place, while luxurious touches are everywhere you look. There is a decking area with our very own private pool, offering amazing views out to the Indian Ocean, which was the perfect place to sip cocktails before dinner. We also had our very own kitchen area where our butler had prepared some of our favourites drinks before we even arrived, and a there was a handwritten chalk board menu in case we wanted a snack during the day!

We had dinner in the Piazza, which is the heart of the island. The food was delightful and if there wasn’t something on the menu that took your fancy, the chef - who came and personally greeted us - would prepare anything you wished for. In fact, he enjoyed the challenge!

Before dinner we were also treated to a beautiful cocktail and canapé reception, which was in the most beautiful setting on a cliff edge overlooking the resort and its beach. Talking of which, the beach itself was absolutely idyllic, truly like nothing I've ever seen before. The sand was so perfect, white and powdery you'd think it had been photoshopped!

As we moved onto other resorts, I was lucky enough to enjoy yet more memorable Seychelles experiences. A full body massage by the Balinese staff at Maia Luxury Resort & Spa was the perfect end to a busy trip exploring the luxury hotels the Seychelles have to offer. The whole experience was extremely relaxing and prepared me nicely for my journey home.

I will remember this amazing trip to the Seychelles forever and would definitely go back. It’s the perfect destination to relax and forget about the real world!! Everyone assumes the Seychelles is only for couples and honeymooners but I would highly recommend it for luxury family holidays and groups of friends as well. You can do all sorts of day trips and exploring, which is great for those who don’t just want to sit and relax (though there's nothing wrong with that).
