REVIEWED: FOUR SEASONS GEORGE V

Karl Lloyd | 17 Mar, 2014

I’ve just returned from a weekend at the Four Seasons George V in Paris, frequently voted the best hotel in the world, and it didn’t disappoint.

I was lucky to be invited as a guest of Four Seasons and was keen to experience their famous service culture first hand – it certainly lived up to expectations, and then some!

Nothing was too much trouble for the impeccable staff; they were all extremely polite and friendly throughout our two-night stay and made us feel truly relaxed and at home (if only!) and as though nothing was too much effort.

One particular highlight in the hotel was the floral displays in the lobby and throughout the hotel – a mass of vivid pink orchids in the most amazing displays imaginable.

The hotel’s location, just a few minute’s walk from the Arc de Triomphe, made it a perfect base for exploring the city both on foot and, as we were to discover, in a Citroen 2CV.  The 2CV tour was a highlight of the weekend, enabling us to see parts of Paris that we’d never see on a bus or that would have taken many days to cover on foot. Our guide for the morning was Franck Vallauri from La Fayette (joint hosts for the weekend) who couldn’t have been more helpful.

We were also fortunate enough to dine at the home of Union Interalliée, a private members club in a magnificent mansion on the Champs Elysee, courtesy of La Fayette.

As if we needed any further convincing on the credentials of Four Seasons as the world’s premier luxury hotel company, a presentation from Chris Norton (President of Hotel Operations, EMEA) enlightened us as to the many ways that they are still improving their amazing product; from new beds with three firmness settings, to a whole host of new hotels and spas springing up around the world – if only we could visit them all! Well, there is the option of joining them in their jet on a worldwide tour taking in a number of them; maybe when the premium bonds pay out!

All too soon we were back to Gare du Nord to board Eurostar back to London, a mere 2.5 hours away, full of admiration and respect for Four Seasons and the incredible team they’ve assembled and dreaming about which of their hotels we’d be visiting next; golf in Mauritius or a more adventurous trip to Baku?
