From the moment we pulled up to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in our hired Fiat 500 we were blown away before we had even got into the reception!

The view was just ‘wow’; you could not get better, perfectly situated on the lake with vistas over to the town of Bellagio. Our first stop was lunch in the Terrazzo restaurant where there’s a relaxed atmosphere with classic Italian fare. We could have sat there all day just drinking Spritz Aperol (a local Italian aperitif).

We had booked a Deluxe room with lake view which is a must in my opinion. Waking up to the views here could never get old.

The hotel is an old palace and the family have retained this style, even mentioning "we still have room keys"! Next stop HAD to be the private beach area with floating pool, where the sun was shining down. I could not think of a better place to be than catching the rays on the comfy beanbags scattered around the deck of the pool, with the occasional dip to cool off enjoying the gentle rock of the pool caused by boats on the lake.

I treated myself to an aromatherapy massage in the T-Spa followed by a bit of down time by the infinity pool with yet more beautiful views - the perfect place to relax. They have just expanded the spa facility here, creating within the 18th century Villa Emilia T-Spa Suite for couples to indulge in a spa experience, plus a brand new guest suite within this building which would be perfect for a wellness break.

We went on a local ferry to Bellagio, which took just 7 minutes and with the ferry point just seconds from the hotel. Bellagio is a bustling town with high-end boutiques, restaurants and shopping along cobbled, very quaint, streets. Should you wish to explore more the hotel has its own private water taxi, brought in from Venice, which guests can take out and even offers a "Hollywood Tour" passing by famous locations used in movies such as Star Wars and Bond films, and you’ll even swing by George Clooney’s pad - the Lakes most famous resident! In fact the hotel oozes old school glamour at every turn, with Greta Garbo having stayed here and the Suite Greta having been created in her honour.

On our final night we dined in La Terrazza, enjoying a 3-course meal with a menu options created by Gualtiero Marchesi. Absolutely everything we ate was delicious but the stand out dish for me was a risotto with saffron decorated with gold leaf. The wine master is on hand to help you choose the best wine to accompany your meal...did I mention you have a perfect view over the lake!?

This hotel more than exceeded our expectations. Every detail has been thought of, you feel like you have been welcomed into a family home that makes you relaxed the moment you arrive with everything taken care of for you. I’d recommend continuing your Italian holiday with a stay on the larger Lake Garda as we did, or perfectly combined with the stylish city of Milan for exclusive shopping and sightseeing.
