“Well colour me happy, there’s a sofa in here for two!” I exclaimed as I walked into the elevator at Beverly Wilshire (A Four Seasons Hotel).
I couldn’t help myself. Pretty Woman was the defining movie of my teenage years and to this day my oldest friend and I can still recite every line of the film which shot Julia Roberts to stardom.
You can therefore only imagine my utter delight when Four Seasons invited me for a two-night stay at their iconic Rodeo Drive address on behalf of the Inspiring Travel Company. It meant ticking an experience firmly from my bucket list and at the same time having my first taste of the legendary Four Seasons service.
The journey had begun from London Heathrow on Air New Zealand’s direct flight to LAX. I’d experienced this journey once before on a different airline, but Air NZ was head and shoulders above. The in-air dining was exceptional, the entertainment varied, the staff exceedingly helpful and the flight smooth and speedy. We arrived into the west coast city feeling rested and ready for our holiday of a lifetime.
The first few days were spent catching up with an old friend and enjoying some of the state’s other highlights; including Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Santa Monica, Malibu, and even a flying visit into Nevada to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. We then ventured into the heart of the city and arrived by taxi through the famed cast iron gates of the Beverly Wilshire.
The first thing to greet us was a line-up of the most incredible motor cars I am ever likely to lay my eyes on. A Bugatti, Maserati and Ferrari were parked up outside the entrance, much to the joy of my other half who stood transfixed by their gleaming bodywork for a good ten minutes.
Inside we were given a very warm welcome and then shown to our Deluxe Beverly Suite (via the ‘Pretty Woman’ elevator!). The suite was extremely spacious, with two large bathrooms, a living area, vast bed and double balcony overlooking the pool and LA skyline. The next two days were spent in the lap of luxury.
Despite visiting in November, the heated outdoor pool was plenty warm enough for two Brits, and the Moroccan inspired cabanas were a wonderful spot to relax in the autumn sun. Dining here was another experience not to be missed; with breakfast offering hearty dishes elegantly executed which set us up perfectly for a day spent exploring the city, and the five-course taster dinner at The BLVD was a real treat for the tastebuds. Watching Pretty Woman on our suite’s 42-inch plasma screen TV was an incredible way to end an evening at the Beverly Wilshire.
Aside from the excellent facilities and stellar service, this Four Seasons group property is also superbly placed for enjoying the very best of the city. Located on Wilshire Boulevard, on the corner with Rodeo Drive, within a few short steps you can be sampling the wares of Tiffanys, Chanel, Gucci, Vera Wang and Jimmy Choo. There is also a wealth of different restaurants and bars to choose from too, should you be able to tear yourself away from the luxurious surrounds of the Beverly Wilshire.
Beverly Hills, iconic surrounds, award-winning service and elegant décor; what more could you want from a stay in Los Angeles? “I have to go shopping now!”
The Beverly Wilshire is currently promoting a Pretty Woman package which includes a stay in the Presidential Suite.
