When you think of the Caribbean, what comes to mind? Is it dense, lush rainforest? Exhilarating watersports? Multicultural history? Towering, World Heritage mountains? Possibly not, but as well as the more obvious Caribbean images of sun, sea and sand, they’re all features that mean you should definitely take a closer look at St Lucia.
The island – the only country in the world named after a woman – is surprising, beautiful, complex, fascinating and completely unique; much like one of our favourite resorts there, Jade Mountain.
We know the words ‘unique’, ‘one of a kind’ and ‘spectacular’ are often overused, but in this case, they really are apt. The resort is nestled on St Lucia’s south-west coast in a picturesque location and is extremely bold in design; this strong architectural vision extends to each and every guestroom – called Sanctuaries – having the fourth wall open to make the most of incredible unhindered views of the Pitons, the island’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plus, 24 of the 29 sanctuaries have private, extravagantly sized infinity pools. Guests at Jade Mountain can also access facilities at sister resort Anse Chastanet.
The 600-acre property has, over the years, included a sugar plantation, coconut grove and cocoa tree estate. An array of fruits, herbs and spices are grown on-site, and feature on menus across the resort, which also boast some of the freshest seafood in St Lucia.
The Jade Club, next to the infinity pool, has a fantastic fusion menu designed by James Beard award-winner Allen Susser, while for a special occasion you can’t go wrong with the spectacular Celestial Terrace. Choose to dine as you wish; there is a host of private and intimate dining options available, from private candlelit meals on the beach to the Chef on Wheels service, where the Executive Chef will deliver exquisite meals right to your Sanctuary.
There are still more than 2,000 cocoa trees belonging to the property, and for the last eight years the resort has hand-made Emerald Estate Chocolate. Guests not only have the chance to sample, but can also get hands-on experience and insight into the chocolate making process! Across St Lucia you can visit chocolatiers and learn more about the sweet treat, but within Jade Mountain itself you can indulge in a selection of activities that take place throughout the week, including the Cacao Tree to Chocolate Bar Tour and a chocolate and wine pairing session. You can also try chocolate-inspired spa treatments and restaurant dishes, and keep your eye out for the truffle making class!
This is the perfect resort for couples – whether you’re on your honeymoon, a romantic getaway or simply a sunny escape, this is a truly inspirational destination to celebrate love and life. As well as relaxing in your own private Sanctuary (with your own personal infinity pool) or enjoying a personalised massage or treatment here, guests can head to Kai en Ciel spa, Kai Belté on Anse Chastanet’s beach or the Kai Mer spa cottage for a range of relaxing therapies. For those on a romantic getaway, speak to your Travel Specialist about pre-booking the Alchemy of Two treatment in your Sanctuary.
