We know that choosing where to go for your summer holiday is not a decision taken lightly. You’ve got to factor in where you’re going to stay, what you’re going to eat and what you’re going to do for a start – let alone thinking about family-friendly activities for younger travellers, the climate and how you’re going to fill your days.

To help answer all these conundrums, we’ve taken a closer look at one of our favourite properties – Carlisle Bay in Antigua. From a picture-perfect location to superb dining, this Caribbean hideaway is always high on our lists of ideal summer retreats. Read on to discover why…

Life’s a Beach

For many, the perfect summer holiday involves plenty of sunshine, a spectacular beach and plenty of space to soak up the rays. Carlisle Bay offers all this and then some; the crescent-shaped beach here is one of the Caribbean’s very best, with quintessentially Caribbean white sand and perfect waves.

Senior Digital Marketing Executive Sophie Cahill recently visited Carlisle Bay, and was particularly impressed with the beach. “I really can’t stress enough how stunning the bay location is,” she said. “I’ve never seen water so blue, and I honestly believe this is one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. The resort has a beautiful selection of suites on the beachfront, so you can literally walk straight from your terrace on to the beautiful sandy beach – perfect for a pre-breakfast stroll.”

Stay in Style

Away from the waves, there’s no end of choice to be found in the resort’s accommodation options. At the far end of the resort sit the Bay Suites, which are adult-only and set in a peaceful area perfect for grown-up relaxation.

On the other side of Carlisle Bay, spacious Ocean Suites are great for those travelling with older children and couples or solo travellers alike. Beach Terrace and Beach Balcony Suites are arranged around the family-friendly area of the resort, and offer dreamlike sea views and lots of space. These two-bedroomed suites are particularly great for those travelling with active youngsters, with the beach right on your doorstep!

Endless Activity

From tennis to tubing, raft-building to riding, there’s no end to the adventures on offer during a holiday at Carlisle Bay. Take to the water for a range of watersports (motorised and non-motorised), boat tours, scuba diving or even swimming with sting rays. On land you could head out on a zipline or helicopter tour, or simply choose to luxuriate at the Blue Spa, where a range of treatments and therapies from around the world will help you relax and provide some well-earned ‘me time’.

Family Fun

The key to summer holidays is, of course, keeping every member of your party happy. Families travelling to Antigua will find a wealth of child-friendly activities on offer at Carlisle Bay, with something to suit every taste. As well as carefully-imagined accommodation options perfect for those travelling en masse, a fantastic kids’ club and an array of activities makes Carlisle Bay a top choice for family summer holidays.

Cool Kids’ Club is open for little ones aged from 6 months to 6 years, while older children will find plenty of fun on offer with the Crew Blue Programme. Whether it’s watersports, tennis, island adventures or a special movie screening, there are countless ways for your little ones to make unforgettable holiday memories, all in the care of qualified childcare professionals.

Delicious Delights

A quartet of varied and distinctive restaurants mean there’s something to suit even the pickiest of taste-buds at Carlisle Bay. Dining oceanside is a delight at Indigo on the Beach, where an extensive menu focusses on fresh ingredients – your choices include the likes of Rice Congee, Lobster Benedict and the Belgian Waffle Sundae for breakfast, while the exquisite Tasting Menu is an unmissable dinnertime option. Elsewhere, enjoy woodfired pizza and Italian-style feasts at Ottimo!, East is renowned as one of Antigua’s very best restaurants, and serves Japanese, Thai and Indonesian specialities in a truly stylish and sophisticated setting. While all three of these restaurants welcome those dining with youngsters, adults on a romantic getaway can enjoy plenty of tranquillity at The Jetty Grill, which offers locally-sourced grills and seafoods in a peaceful adult-only environment.
