The dream of Amanruya

Before joining Inspiring Travel Company, Turkey was never a country that attracted me to travel to. Having now stayed and experienced various areas in Turkey my view of this county has changed!

My journey was to begin from Manchester airport, taking a direct flight with Thomas Cook to Bodrum, located on the west side of Turkey. On approach I could see plenty of mountains, green forests and the beautiful Aegean Sea; and in just under four hours we had arrived.

We were greeted on arrival by our driver who transferred us to the Amanruya in a short 25 minutes. Our journey was picturesque; to my left were the forests and mountains and to my right was the sparkling blue Aegean Sea.

Our driver took a right turn and we journeyed through the surrounding trees and the gravelled road in anticipation of what we were to find at the end; and there she was…this spectacular, historic, Ottoman-styled building, where inside I could see the white marble and graceful orchids beautifully presented.

Immediately I felt at ease and as though I had found my hiding spot! The fantastic smells that came from the olive and pine trees circulated the entire property.

After check-in you are transferred, by buggy if you wish, to your private villa. All villas at the Amanruya come with a large, heated outdoor swimming pool complete with a double daybed, sun loungers, outdoor eating area and exterior shower. There are two choices of views to select from; either beautifully natural and untouched gardens or out to sea.

All rooms are furnished in dark mahogany and crisp white linens. The double doors located at both sides of the room give an instant light and airy feel once open, hearing nothing but nature around you. The villas offer an extensive amount of space, with an amazing bathroom, featuring a large white stand-alone tub, double sinks and marble flooring.

For the active traveller the property has plenty of activities to keep you busy. Amanruya offer complimentary bikes which you can use to venture up and down the dirt tracks or cycle down to the natural private beach to enjoy one of the many freshly prepared juices. If walking is your thing then why not take yourself on one of the guided hikes through the forest and up one of the many surrounding mountains? For those who love their yoga Amanruya offer a daily, complimentary class, in addition to private lessons which can be arranged prior to travel.

Down at the private bay guests are able to take advantage of the varied watersports on offer; kayaks, sailing and snorkelling. Please do be aware that although Amanruya does not have a sandy beach guests are able to walk along the pebbles or sit back on a sun lounger over the crystal clear waters on the decking area to enjoy the sunshine.

To completely unwind guests can relax and find their peace with many of the spa treatments on offer. If you wish to chill with a good book the property has it own library with books in over eight languages spread across three floors and on the top floor you can sit in complete comfort and take in the panoramic views of the surrounding area and the Aegean Sea.

Of an evening there are two restaurants to choose from both offering fantastic à la carte meal options. For a totally unique experience why not head to the wine cellars where you can have an evening of wine tasting with snacks? Alternatively you can opt to stay completely private and have an in-villa dining experience either within your villa or on your outdoor terrace.

To take in the local culture and experience the best of the area, Bodrum is a short 15 minute taxi ride will take you to Bodrum Town, where you can explore and visit local, shops, bars and restaurants. In July and August Bodrum host some fantastic festivals featuring plenty of local music, dancing and performances.

Nearby there are two local yacht mariners which offer a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants to try amazing Turkish cuisine including the popular dish 'Mezze'; this is a selection of small appetisers served with breads and yoghurt and truly the best way to sample Turkey.

I would recommend the Amanruya to all those looking for complete relaxation, to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, as well as those looking for a private feel but not too far from adventure and sightseeing should you wish.
