We pride ourselves on our well-travelled team and the expert, first-hand knowledge we offer our clients when planning and booking their holidays. Members of our team have travelled around the world and visited countless hotels and resorts, so we can always make sure we’re offering the very best option for you and yours.

Our Chief Commercial Officer, Judie Hinkson, recently visited The Landings Resort & Spa by Elegant Hotels in St Lucia – a real favourite for her and many other members of our team. Read on to discover Judie’s expert recommendations for a stay at this exceptional resort…

The location of The Landings is superb; just a few miles north of Rodney Bay in St Lucia’s north, the resort meanders around a marina, dotted with small luxury vessels, leading down to a fabulous stretch of beach.

I would say helicopter transfers are well worth considering for the journey from the airport in the south up to the north. Alternatively, our team can arrange an excellent driver who knows the best beauty spots; this way you can combine the scenery with a stop at a local bar at Dennery en route!

The Landings offers ocean, beach and marina view apartments – and there’s not a bad view in the house! The accommodation is all apartment-style and spacious. The design of the Villa Suites is simple and minimalist, yet includes kitchens and utility facilities such as a washing machine and dryer. I stayed with my family and everything we needed on holiday was there, making it easy to get straight to relaxing. We didn’t self-cater much, though being able to cool down with a cold drink, have snacks for our daughter easily on hand or a few cold beers to relax with is always helpful.

Views here are either of the marina, the beach (ground level) or the ocean if located on the second or third storeys. Our Villa Suite, with a large balcony looking straight out to the ocean, was the perfect place to enjoy that first morning coffee and to wind down with a cocktail at sunset. Most mornings we opted for a coffee and banana bread before venturing out to explore, although a full breakfast is available for all guests.

The fitness facilities in-resort are also excellent, with tennis courts and resident pros, beach volleyball, a fully-equipped 24-hour gym and some of St Lucia’s top yoga and Pilates instructors offering classes on the resort balcony. The tennis courts and equipment are particularly excellent, and the tennis pros are some of the best on the island; my husband certainly got a great head start for his tennis season back in the UK!

The beach at The Landings is super – a good half-mile stretch of soft sand, where guests are well catered for with beach service, including cooling spritz sprays. The waves are gentle here, so swimming and paddling is particularly excellent for families with young children. For older and more active visitors, the watersports centre has plenty on offer, including donut and banana boat rides.

A favourite spot of ours in-resort was the Callaloo Beach Bar and Grill. Right on the beach, Callaloo has a very laidback and informal atmosphere, a nice vibe with Caribbean music complementing cold beers, light lunch snacks and local cuisine. Choose the perfect spot for a casual meal, either in the sun or tucked away in the shade. It’s so easy to while away a few hours relaxing here with the children just a stone’s throw away in the sea or having a whale of a time with watersports.

One unique feature of the resort is the water taxi service to Rodney Bay Marina. The journey only takes ten minutes, but my top tip is that you can actually hop aboard at the watersports centre on the beach and arrive in just five minutes. The marina offers an abundance of shops, cafés, restaurants and nightlife for when it’s time for a break from the beach.

Another recommendation is to use the water taxi to get to a fabulous local restaurant called Jambe de Bois (‘wooden leg’ in English – yes, it’s named after a pirate!). This restaurant is nestled into the edge of historic Pigeon Island, which is visible from the beach at The Landings, and it takes just five minutes to reach it by water taxi. Simply book your pick-up and drop-off time at the watersports centre and enjoy a leisurely lunch of excellent local cuisine and live music in the evenings. The ultimate way to enjoy the authentic St Lucia experience.
