If you have plans to walk down the aisle anytime soon, or you’re looking for a super-romantic getaway for two, the islands of the Indian Ocean tick so many boxes for a getaway à deux.

With their picture-postcard beaches, luxurious resorts and secluded locations, the Maldives, Mauritius and the Seychelles are idyllic spots for a five-star honeymoon. So with that in mind, we’ve collated our Top 10 Indian Ocean Honeymoons for 2019 featuring something to suit all; whether you’re a couple looking for superb value, ultimate luxury or a mixture of beach relaxation with another holiday experience, we hope our ten honeymoon ideas below inspire you. And don’t forget, our team is at the end of the line to offer their first-hand tips, our most current savings and to create a bespoke honeymoon to your exact wishes…

1. All-inclusive

Imagine not having to think about a thing your entire stay. The bill has already been settled. Your exceptional food and wine sorted. Well that’s exactly what you’ll enjoy at OZEN by Atmosphere at Maadhoo in the Maldives. In fact, the Atmosphere INDULGENCE Plan here goes far beyond the normal bounds of ‘all-inclusive’. Think access to the spa, non-motorised watersports, unlimited snorkelling excursions and even PADI-certified dives. Breakfast is served with champagne, dinner with signature cocktails and fine wines, and each guest can dine in the ultimate style at the underwater M6m once during their stay. Our Travel Specialist Claire says: “The service at this resort is simply second to none. Upon arrival we were welcomed by drummers, and then a spa therapist gave us a foot rub! Moët & Chandon champagne is included as part of the package, and each evening guests are greeted with a chilled glass of bubbly. There are lots of incredible dining options, but a ‘must’ at this resort is definitely the amazing underwater M6m restaurant.” Check out our current offers to this sublime Maldives resort.

2. Adult-only

Set in its own lagoon, Huvafen Fushi is a small island resort in the Maldives exclusively for adults, making it an outstanding choice for travel ‘à deux’. Guests are immersed in unrivalled Maldivian scenery, from treatments at the world’s first underwater spa to snorkelling with the resort’s marine biologist; everything has been created to showcase, and protect, the stunning environs. Having recently undergone a refurbishment, one of our favourite new additions that's perfect for the ultimate luxury honeymoon is The Playpen. This cheekily named one-bedroom bungalow is the ultimate indulgent retreat for two; super-private, astonishingly spacious and all-in-all a memorable, romantic experience. Outside you’ll be treated to your own infinity swimming pool and private beach, while inside there’s a vast open-plan bedroom and bathroom with a Jacuzzi bathtub. There’s a kitchen where each morning your butler will create breakfast, and for other meals and drinks there is a private chef and a cocktail bar. A number of exclusive benefits are included for guests of The Playpen. Speak to our team to discover more!

3. Best New Experience

For a honeymoon with serious ‘wow factor’ we can think of nowhere better than Conrad Maldives Rangali Island in the Maldives; home to a new underwater suite! The most recent development at the luxury resort, The Muraka is an utterly unique underwater suite, the first of its kind in the world. Due to open in November 2018, it is spread over two-storeys, one of which will be submerged more than 16ft beneath the Indian Ocean. The villa will feature a king-size bedroom, spacious living area, beautiful bathroom, sleek bar, infinity pool and a separate butler’s quarters. A true once-in-a-lifetime experience, kick back in complete luxury, surrounded by a colourful kingdom of local marine life.

What’s more, our Travel Specialist Adam was lucky enough to be among a handful of people to see The Muraka before it opened. So if you’re interested in knowing more, ask to speak to Adam for a first-hand account of this truly matchless honeymoon experience.

4. City & Beach

If you’re time rich, the Indian Ocean is ideal as a ‘twin centre’ honeymoon, teamed with another destination on your flight route to the islands. A popular choice is to fly first to Dubai for the buzz of this desert city, then venture to the tranquillity and seclusion of the Maldives. Our Travel Specialists recommend One&Only The Palm; a boutique resort by Dubai standards, it’s away from the hustle and bustle, yet only a short complimentary shuttle boat ride from One&Only Royal Mirage. It’s the only resort in Dubai to have suites with both private pools and direct beach access, and the three restaurants, under the culinary guidance of Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno, make it a foodie destination in its own right.

We then recommend flying to the Maldives for a week at the formidable One&Only Reethi Rah where there are some 12 white coral sand beaches, villa hosts taking care of every fine detail, and a culinary scene bar none. For added romance we recommend the private sandbank afternoon on your own tiny island, and sailing aboard the resort’s luxury yachts, available for half-day, full-day or overnight charters. Reethi Rah translates as ‘beautiful island’ in Dhivehi, and this multi-award- winning luxury oasis is certainly that and then some.

5. Culture & Beach

For many couples, a honeymoon is an opportunity to not just lie on a beach and relax post-wedding, but also the chance to tick somewhere off their bucket list together. Our Compact Sri Lanka Tour Plus Kuredu Island Resort itinerary combines the best of both; first spending four nights exploring the stunning Indian Ocean island of Sri Lanka, before heading to the Lhaviyani Atoll for sun, sea and sand. Completely tailor-made to you, this is a wonderful way to celebrate the start of your lifelong commitment to each other, exploring cultural sites and ancient wonders, then easing those post-wedding blues to simply ‘fly and flop’ on the beach.

6. Safari & Beach

Alternatively, another popular choice for many couples wanting to combine ‘bucket list and beach’ is a safari and Indian Ocean honeymoon. You could first head to South Africa for a stay at the incredible Kruger National Park, home to the Big Five. Sabi Sand is a great choice for accommodation, home to four luxurious lodges and with an unfenced border into the park so you’ll feel truly immersed in the safari experience. After this ultimate travel experience you can recline on the white sands of The Residence Mauritius, where the tropical grounds and al fresco dining spaces create a dreamy backdrop for your luxury beach honeymoon.

7. Private Island

What could be better for your luxury 2019 honeymoon than a stay at a private island in the Maldives? Unparalleled in every sense of the word, Cheval Blanc Randheli indulges its guests to the very height of luxury in a resort where sleek modern architecture blends seamlessly with indigenous Maldivian influences. Here the clear waters of the house reef are home to turtles and manta rays; dining is known as ‘culinary art’; villas boast their own infinity pools, which melt into the turquoise waters of the horizon; and service is personal and professional and caters to your every whim. What’s more, you’ll arrive in style on board the resort’s very own exclusive ‘Cheval Blanc’ six-seater seaplane; just a 40-minute journey to the Noonu Atoll.

8. Great Value

For a great value option where you needn’t put your hand in your pocket your entire stay, our Inspiring team recommends Zilwa Attitude, Mauritius. The all-inclusive board basis here is superb, with plenty of dining choices – including Creole, barbecue and Indian specialities – and lots of activities and entertainment, highlights of which are the outdoor cinema and weekly Sega show. Take a look at our dedicated Zilwa Attitude page for our most current savings, or speak to a member of the team for a bespoke quote and the complimentary added value they are renowned for securing for our honeymoon clients.

9. Royal Honeymoon Inspiration

Having played host to many a household name – including being chosen as the honeymoon destination of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – North Island in the Seychelles is a stunningly remote location for a dreamy retreat for two. With new direct British Airways flights from Heathrow to Mahé, this remote location is easier to get to than ever. A keen environmental focus permeates every detail of North Island – something we know is important to Their Royal Highnesses through their charity work – and guests can engage as little or as much as they like; from browsing the natural history library to listening to a conservation talk or witnessing turtle hatchlings emerge on the beach thanks to the island’s breeding programme. The 11 ‘barefoot luxury’ villas are hugely spacious, with each being individually handcrafted by Seychellois and African craftsmen, featuring thatched roofs and a raised position off the ground to catch the cooling island breezes. The culinary concept will be a real highpoint of your stay, with daily menus designed according to the latest island harvest with special consideration given to your favourites and dietary requirements.

10. Island Hopping

If you just can’t decide which island in the Indian Ocean is for you, how about combining two?! Four Seasons has two exemplary properties in the Maldives, which can be connected by a luxurious ocean voyage on their Four Seasons yacht. You could begin at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, home to the most astonishing stretches of white sand, with Blu Beach in a league of its own. Then hop aboard the Four Seasons Explorer for a journey through the atolls you will never forget, arriving at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa for another exceptional island stay.
The Four Seasons private island in the Maldives – Voavah – also boasts its very own 62-foot yacht; so should you be lucky enough to be staying here you can island hop on Voavah Summer.
