What’s on in Cape Town?

Inspiring Travel Company Destination Manger Richard Nurse gets active in Cape Town this week with his top suggestions for adrenalin-seeking holidaymakers.

What a week again. Warm waters and sunshine…I’m beginning to sound like a stuck record!

Cape Town is an exciting place to be at the moment if you’re interested in outdoor sports, as people are starting to prepare for the Cape Argus/Pick n Pay cycle race around the Cape Peninsula which is about 108km. It is the world’s largest timed cycle race and attracts cyclists of all ages - around 35,000 in total. It's all happening on Sunday 8th March and if that's not enough for you then there is the Cape Epic mountain bike classics over eight days from 15th March - 22nd March. Definitely not for the faint hearted but if you’re into the outdoors, fit, and enjoy the wind in your hair then come and visit us and enter one or both of the above events; the former certainly being the easier of the two. Even I have completed more than a handful over the years!

But if cycling isn’t your bag then there is always the prospect of surfing, wind surfing or kite surfing which are all opportunities for adrenalin junkies. But wait! What about hang gliding off Signal Hill or Lions Head? One can try it solo or in tandem with an instructor, landing on the lawns in Sea Point in front of Winchester Mansions.

I don't include myself on that side of the adventurous brigade as I prefer my feet on terra firma, sitting in a comfy chair on the Sea Point beachfront with a lovely seafood salad and an ice cold glass of white wine in front of me, whilst watching the hang gliders land safely and softly on the lawns in front of the Winchester Mansions. I’d then suggest finishing your day at a fabulous summer concert held on Saturday evening on Clifton’s fourth beach (in aid of the National Sea Rescue Institute) and on Sunday with a walk among the Proteas on Table mountain…it’s what I would call a perfect end to a lovely weekend.

As I keep saying: don't wait, come and join me. I would love to show you around.

Until the next time,
