As specialists in luxury Caribbean holidays, here at the Inspiring Travel Company our team is bursting with suggestions of which islands to travel to, where to stay and what to do. George Long recently came back from a trip to St Lucia and was amazed by all this stunning island has to offer. We asked him to describe some of his top reasons why St Lucia should be the next destination on your travel wish list…
Plenty to see and do
St Lucia offers lots of activities both on land, and on and under the water. A great day out for the whole family is ziplining at the Treetop Adventure Park, which will give you an entirely unique view of the island’s lush green rainforest. This activity can be paired up with others too, such as a Jeep safari or waterfalls hike, to create a wonderfully authentic St Lucia day out that will take you right into the heart of this stunning Caribbean landscape.
Indulge your sweet tooth
As well as staying at Boucan, from renowned chocolatiers Hotel Chocolat, you can also visit for the day to experience the “bean to bar” chocolate making at the hotel. This offers you a great insight into how chocolate is made, and its history and origin, while getting to experience firsthand the making of your very own bar of chocolate.
Luxury St Lucia hotels
For luxury and amazing service Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort has it all. I loved the luxury villas with their own private pools set into the mountainside with ocean views. Or for those who love to tumble straight out of bed onto the sand, there’s the beachfront bungalows that roll on to Sugar Beach.
The resort is in a hugely romantic setting, with gorgeous food and a relaxed atmosphere, so perfect for a honeymoon. Provision for families is excellent too though, so it’s definitely worth looking at if you’re travelling with the kids in tow.
I stayed in one of the luxury villas which boasts its very own butler service. Your personal butler is on hand to help you unpack and pack, iron any clothes you might need for that evening and basically make your stay one you will never forget. It was the real icing on the cake to my stay.
My other suggestions would be:
Rendezvous – an all-inclusive, adult-only beach retreat perfect for two.
BodyHoliday – a wellbeing resort with a difference that’s renowned as ‘the’ place in the Caribbean for a healthy holiday.
Jade Mountain – with its epic views of the Pitons from the exceptionally romantic suites.
Serenity at Coconut Bay – I’m not the only person at the Inspiring Travel Company to have visited St Lucia recently. My colleague Megan has too, and after her stay she strongly recommends this all-inclusive, adult-only St Lucia hotel, which is a new addition to our portfolio.
Top Caribbean beaches
For me the best beach on the island has to be Sugar Beach. Located next to a lush rainforest, this striking white sand beach is the perfect place to relax and unwind. It offers dramatic views of the Pitons, located in the south of St Lucia, and is actually nestled between Petit Piton and Gros Piton.
Pigeon Island National Park is another legendary landmark to venture to should you be a lover of Caribbean beaches and its history as a lookout point makes it an interesting spot to visit for anyone into their history too.
If being under the water is more your thing then you’ll be truly spoilt for choice, with the best diving and snorkelling spots on the west coast, in places such as Castries, Marigot Bay and Anse Chastanet.
Twin-centre St Lucia
I would strongly recommend visiting both the north and the south parts of St Lucia and doing what we term in travel a ‘twin-centre’ holiday on the island. This will then let you experience the amazing hotels on offer in both regions, along with the varied landscapes and towns.
Helicopter transfers between the two are a brilliant way to get a feel for the island’s one-of-a-kind landscape, or your Travel Specialist can arrange car hire so you can amble through the island at your own pace, stopping off at points of interest on route to your next destination.
