Bermuda is a truly unique destination – the island’s seasons mirror ours here in the UK, so it’s a really superb option for sun-soaked summer holidays. Whilst summer is the peak season, there’s plenty to do here year-round; golf lovers in particular will enjoy a break in spring or autumn. A top tip from our Travel Specialists is to combine a stay in Bermuda with a trip to New York, just a couple of hours’ flight away.
Within Bermuda, one of our favourite places to stay is Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, A Fairmont Managed Hotel. One of the island’s most iconic and prestigious places to stay, the resort’s ambience is that of a private club – here you’ll find Bermuda’s sole full-service marina, the chic Beach Club perfect for enjoying the pink sands, and an impressive art collection adorning the walls.
This really is Bermuda’s ‘grande dame’, an iconic destination on the island. A raft of recent upgrades and refurbishments have enhanced the feel of the hotel, adding a contemporary atmosphere and a range of facilities, including the fantastic marina and Beach Club. A location on the waterfront of the capital, Hamilton, means guests have easy access to a variety of restaurants, bars, shops and attractions – should you be able to tear yourself away from the hotel!
We’ve put together our ultimate guide to staying at Hamilton Princess, with our top insider’s insight on five of the best things about the stately hotel.
A new addition to the hotel, the 60-berth Princess Marina is the place to be in Hamilton. This is Bermuda’s only full-service hotel marina, and as well as housing vessels of all sizes offers an array of aqua-based adventures for guests; deep sea fishing trips, boat rentals and private charters are just some of the adventures at sea. On land during the summer, the marina offers a lively atmosphere, best felt at the weekly Marina Nights, which feature local DJs and are a favourite of locals and guests alike. Those with a particularly discerning palate will surely relish the chance to attend Indulge, a weekly event with live jazz, fine cigars and a choice of malts and rums to sip on as you enjoy the sunset.
The Princess Beach Club
Making the most of Bermuda’s famous pink sands, The Princess Beach Club sits in a prime position on the picturesque private cove of Sinky Bay, which is reached in less than 20 minutes via a complimentary shuttle in the hotel’s Jitney. Once you’ve arrived you won’t want to leave – lounge on a land or water hammock or settle in for the day in a Princess Cabana. For guests keen to spend an active day at the beach there’s tennis and an array of watersports on offer, while little ones can spend the day building sandcastles at the playground. During the summer months lunch service and picnic boxes are available.
Something for Everyone
This really is a top choice for holidays no matter who you’re travelling with. Solo travellers and couples can find plenty of tranquillity at the beach club, the adult-only lap pool, the sumptuous Exhale Spa and the plush Retail Arcade, while those travelling with youngsters will find plenty of child-friendly facilities to make holidays a breeze. As well as a special kids’ area at the Beach Club, the Prince & Princess Kid’s Club welcomes guests aged 5-12 (and those aged up to 4 with a parent attending) for a range of fun and educational activities, from treasure hunts and movie nights to days at the beach and taking to the water.
Princess Art Collection
The hotel is renowned for its art collection, and walking through its corridors really does feel like strolling through a top art gallery. The Princess Art Collection features some of the world’s top names in modern and pop art, with works by the likes of Banksy, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst – head to Crown & Anchor Bar and you might even spot some art by Nelson Mandela! To make sure you don’t miss any of the masterpieces, we recommend joining a guided tour of the art collection, which take place each Saturday and by appointment.
