This truly unique voyage combines the greatest natural and historical sights in South America into one magnificent cruising itinerary. Discover luscious rainforest, tropical beaches, vibrant cultures and world-famous locations like Machu Picchu, the city of Lima and the Amazon River, among countless other gems.

Comprising three exciting and engaging legs, this river, land and sea combination itinerary takes you into the beating heart of South America. Docking in truly unforgettable cities along the Central and South American coastline, you’ll make your way from the natural wonders of Costa Rica to discover the unique history of Peru.

The first part of your journey is aboard Scenic Eclipse, from which you’ll cruise the coast and take in some of the most incredible landscapes and wildlife that Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Ecuador have to offer. Then, after a three-night stay in Lima, you’ll board Delfin III for an exciting Amazon River cruise.

This final leg of your journey will allow you to get closer to the beautiful South American nature than ever before. With a range of fantastic excursions, including animal spotting on walking trails and visits to indigenous communities, you’ll quickly become an Amazon expert. Ending your journey with an extended stay in Peru’s Sacred Valley is the perfect finale, where you’ll get to explore Machu Picchu and the fascinating ancient city of Cuzco.

Fly from the UK to San Jose, Costa Rica, and take a private transfer to your luxury hotel for a restful overnight stay before your adventure begins.
Today you’ll transfer to Puerto Caldera and board Scenic Eclipse. Spend the day getting settled into your floating paradise as you begin to cruise towards Islas Tortugas and launch your exploration of Costa Rica.
Continue towards Islas Tortugas and discover coastal Curú National Park and Wildlife Refuge. Here you’ll find an abundance of wildlife including capuchin and howler monkeys. Then, arrive at Isla Tortugas, a tropical paradise of clear waters and stunning beaches.
Embedded in the luscious rainforest of Manuel Antonio National Park, Quepos is home to beautiful natural landscapes, with beaches of brilliant white sands, tropical greenery, bright coral reefs and a breathtaking variety of bird species. Take a boat ride through the mangroves, join a guide to learn about the coffee roasting process or fly through the treetops of the Titi Canopy!
With a full day to fill on board Scenic Eclipse, this could be the perfect opportunity to relax and rejuvenate from the journey so far. Why not enjoy an expert-led fitness class or indulge in one of the state-of-the-art therapy lounges at the Senses Spa?
Arriving in Panama gives you even more opportunities to discover unique wildlife. UNESCO World Heritage-listed Darién National Park is a natural bridge spanning North and South America and is still home to the indigenous Embera Indian Tribe. You’ll also get the chance to paddle board along the beautiful coastline.
Further down the coast, you’ll reach colourful Colombia and Utría National Park. Considered to be the most beautiful natural hotspot in Columbia, here you’ll discover coral reefs, tropical rainforest and rocky beaches where sea turtles come to lay their eggs. During your time here, you could explore the walkways of the mangrove swamp or kayak the calm waters to spot the birdlife.
Another day at sea provides more opportunities to unwind and get to know your ship mates. You could find yourself enjoying a game of bridge or canasta in the Observatory Lounge or indulge yourself in a tasting of the finest wines.
Upon arrival in Ecuador, you’ll discover a land of fascinating history. Once a thriving trading hub between the Incas and the Mayas, Manta is now famous for its tuna fishing. Visit a fishing village to learn more or, for something different, head to the Panama hat factory! Foodies can visit a cocoa plantation to learn how chocolate is made, or, you could opt for a walk in the Pacoche rainforest.
Surrounded by such luxurious amenities, you’ll welcome another day unwinding on the ship. With so many entertainment and dining options available, you’ll be surprised by how quickly your time passes by while cruising the ocean.
The deep dive into ancient history continues across the border in Salaverry. Nearby Trujillo is home to stunning colonial mansions alongside tremendously well-preserved ruins and other archaeological treasures left behind by the Mochica and Chimu civilisations. As you cruise the chain of islands off the coast, spot some of the hundreds of seabird species that live there.
Just off the captivating coast of Peru, this small chain of four islands is a wildlife refuge protected by Peru's National Reserve System of Guano Islands, Isles and Capes. Here, you’ll find stunning native wildlife including sea lions and Humboldt penguins – plus, you might catch a sight of the blue-footed boobies as they flock.
Your first cruise of your itinerary will conclude in Callao. Disembark after a final hearty breakfast and take a private transfer to your luxurious hotel for a three-night stay in the lively city of Lima.
After a restful night in your hotel, spend your day getting to know the vibrant personality and history of Lima. Marvel at the fully restored colonial architecture as you embark on an expert-led guided tour of the capital city of the Spanish conquistadors.
Today you’ll immerse yourself into the city’s incredible arts and culture scene. Discover the famous monastery with its unique architecture, then visit one of the world’s most exquisite private art collections, the Barbosa-Stern Collection. Alternatively, learn how to create your own Peruvian cuisine with a cooking class.
This morning you’ll fly to Iquitos and embark upon your four-night Amazon cruise aboard Delfin III. The ship is the peak of river cruising luxury, with plush oversized suites for you to relax in.
Settle in and enjoy the first full day of your Amazon cruise. This is the perfect voyage for discovering the natural diversity of the Amazon region. Along the way, you’ll explore remote river tributaries and spot monkeys and birds while walking along jungle trails with knowledgeable naturalist guides.
There are so many ways to enjoy the beauty of the Amazon. Aboard Delfin III, you’ll find some incredible excursions to get you closer to nature. Board skiffs and cruise along the waterways or go on shore for excursions through the jungle with your guide.
Soak up the unique Amazon atmosphere as you enjoy your final day cruising the world’s most famous river. Choose from a range of small group excursions including visits to local villages and schools to meet with native Amazonians.
Disembark Delfin III and board a flight to Cuzco. From here, you’ll travel through the breathtaking Sacred Valley, arriving at your hotel for a three-night stay. In the Sacred Valley you’ll discover the unique history, culture and scenery at the heart of the Incan empire, plus enjoy a private music performance with a tapas style dinner.
Today you’ll receive the opportunity to tour Ollantaytambo, the site where Manco Inca defeated the Spanish conquistadors. You’ll enjoy the company of an expert local guide during a mouth-watering feast at Hacienda Huayoccari, where you’ll also see a local weaving demonstration. The afternoon is spent at leisure for you to explore the village of Urumbamba.
South America has a vibrant culinary heritage and today you’ll get to indulge in the delights of authentic South American dining. Enjoy five different meats cooked in five different ways over an open flame, using traditional ingredients grown in a local organic garden. Alternatively, you can tour the ruins of Pisac and its colourful markets.
This morning you’ll embark on a Vistadome rail journey to make your way through picturesque fields to the most famous place in Peru. Ancient and stunning, world-recognised Machu Picchu is a truly breathtaking sight to behold. Look on in amazement as your expert local guide helps you uncover the mysteries of these majestic ruins.
Today you’ll dive back into Peru’s culinary culture for second helpings. Attend a traditional cooking class and learn how to prepare and cook two of the country’s signature offerings: ceviche and pisco sours. These recipes make the perfect gift to bring home to impress your friends and family with! Continue by train back to Cuzco for a final three-night stay.
Spend the day immersing yourself into Cuzco’s truly unique history. The former capital of the Incan Empire is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and possesses incredible architecture and fascinating historical landmarks, including the imposing ruins of Sacsayhuamán fortress. You can see it all with a walking tour or, alternatively, visit a community school to meet the teachers and pupils.
Toast your final night in Cuzco with a farewell dinner alongside your Tour Director and touring companions. In the breathtaking surroundings of the Gold Room at the Pre-Columbian Art Museum of Cusco, you’ll enjoy a delicious candle-lit meal full of the flavours, colours, aromas and ingredients of Peru.
This morning you’ll enjoy a final breakfast and bid farewell to your Tour Director and fellow travellers. After soaking up your final few rays of South American sunshine, you’ll transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.
Arrive back in the UK with fond memories of your time spent venturing through South America. With so much to discover, we have no doubt that you’ll be inspired to return as soon as possible.
