India is long established as a Mecca for the British traveller, drawn to the kaleidoscope of experiences to be discovered.
India is a land that has much to explore, from its wildlife, spiritual and cultural heritage to its dramatic scenery from lush jungles to arid deserts, snow-capped mountains and excellent beaches.
Its diverse offerings and experiences from lush jungles to bustling cities will create a holiday with plenty to inspire and a trip to see the Taj Mahal should certainly be on your list of ‘must-see’ attractions.
Stretching from the southern Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal, India’s East is its most unique and rural region. Vibrant temples, tribal villages, tea plantations and riverways, make up a vast majority of the East, making for a culturally rich journey experienced nowhere else in India. The colonial city of Calcutta with its literary and artistic heritage is home to museums, galleries and breathtaking architecture; whilst the National Parks make for wonderful wildlife spotting – you may even get a glimpse of the elusive Indian one-horned rhinoceros.
Tropical and spiritual, Kerala and the south is notably different to the rest of the country. With a history dating back over 3000 years, this slower-paced region is rich in ancient relics and steeped in traditions. Abound in cultural and natural beauty, the people and architecture will inspire and delight, whilst the pristine beaches, serene backwater lagoons and lush jungles will relax the mind-body and spirit. Renowned for its vast wildlife sanctuaries, the south is also a great place to go in search for India’s unique flora and fauna.
India has so much to offer it can be hard to know where to start or stop. So when you talk to our travel specialists you’ll find they’re full of ideas that help you create an experience that indulges every ambition or desire. We don’t believe you should be limited by rigid itineraries or schedules. You tell us what you want and we’ll tell you when, where and how to make that a reality, whether that’s a safari through a tiger reserve, or camping under the canopy of stars in luxury. If there’s something particular you want to see or do, such as see more wildlife, explore more culture, or visit more restaurants, we can arrange pretty much anything. If you want to mix and match experiences, cities or even other countries, then we can do that too.
With India being such a large subcontinent, the weather varies greatly throughout the country. As a general rule, in northern areas, October to March brings warm days with dry, cool nights and is widely viewed as the best time to travel. Southern India is most pleasant from November to March with rains from late May through July. Himalayan summers range from April to June, with a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 15°C with the winters bringing cold temperatures throughout. From mid-November until mid-February, the early mornings and nights can be cold so ensure you pack appropriately.
