Cosmopolitan Darwin is the only tropical city in Australia – and is indeed closer to Bali than Bondi Beach or Byron Bay.
There’s plenty to do here – from browsing galleries and exploring museums to sampling cocktails at one of Mitchell Street’s vibrant bars. This is one of Australia’s fastest growing cities, yet still maintains a relaxed, laidback atmosphere and enticing low-rise landscape. The sunsets here are spectacular and can be enjoyed from a sunset harbour cruise from Stokes Hill Wharf.
This lively city is also the gateway to some of the Northern Territory’s most amazing wonders. Birders, walkers and swimmers alike will enjoy a trip to Berry Springs Nature Park, where an array of native plant life and colourful birds can be spotted among dense forest and sparkling pools. The Aboriginal reserve of Arnhem Land is a superb wilderness area full of intriguingly rugged natural beauty, while Kakadu – Australia’s largest national park – features ancient art, lush flora and plenty of breathtaking scenery.
