Sheltered on a stretch of dreamy sand and backed by hills dressed in lush forest, the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort is surely already the setting to provide that exclusive Whitsundays experience – though the story certainly doesn’t stop there.

With its string of irresistible fine-dining restaurants, a heavenly holistic spa, watersports including underwater Seabob adventures, scuba, snorkelling and jet ski, plus several swimming pools that look out towards the ocean, you can see why.

The hotel itself is split into three distinct – though equally enticing – accommodation options: the Lagoon, Pool and Beach Wings which will see you either overlooking the surrounding countryside and gardens, getting instant access to a large lake-style pool or open up directly onto the beach. Importantly, the guestrooms, suites and villas of all three categories are each bedecked in the same uber-trendy and contemporary beach-chic stylings, minimalist décor and comfy furnishings, just as you’ll find throughout the rest of the resort too.

While staying at InterContinental Hayman Island Resort you are situated at the northern tip of the Whitsundays, meaning the pristine Great Barrier Reef waters are all around you – easily explored with a private yacht charter or island-hopping boat trip, seaplane or helicopter tour, scuba diving, snorkelling or some stand-up paddleboarding. All of these are available from the hotel as well as its modern gym and soothing spa, sports courts, golf simulator and kids’ club full of games and activities to keep little ones entertained.

And then there’s the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort’s restaurant options, a mouth-watering gastronomic journey from Asia to Italy with a good dose of Australian fine-dining suave, pairing-wine menus, cocktail bars and deliciously seasonal seafood also part of the foodie package here.

InterContinental Hayman Island Resort is made up of 166 guestrooms, suites and villas split between three sections of the hotel which overlook a nearby lagoon and the hotel gardens, one of the main pools or straight out towards the ocean. Between the three options there are then a range of one, two or three-bedroom suites to choose from (great for families), plus a standalone three-bedroom house which is simply stunning. All are wonderfully well-equipped and beautifully styled in modern, summery tones and occasional art deco touches, with no expense spared on quality throughout. Some come with an immaculate private pool and daybed, a kitchenette and lounge area, though every room category enjoys a king-size bed and plush linens, separate bathtub and shower plus all the mod-cons.
