Just half an hour from Port Douglas – the launchpad for forays into the Great Barrier Reef – this rainforest hideaway is ensconced on the banks of Mossman River and encircled by tropical foliage, making for a magical natural playground.
It’s a tranquil setting indeed, and Silky Oaks Lodge goes on to offer a myriad of serenity-inducing treehouse abodes for its guests. Hammocks on the veranda, spa bathtubs, polished wooden floors and wide windows framing the greenery – all this is just the start of the story. There’s then a spa, swimming pool and yoga classes to leave you feeling replenished, and canoes, bikes, snorkels and a tennis court for active types. When you’re not luxuriating in the spa or out on intrepid excursions, take a seat at the Treehouse Restaurant and indulge in a contemporary Australian meal while lapping up the rainforest views below.
Beyond Silky Oaks Lodge, you can embark on a day trip out to the Great Barrier Reef for some world-class snorkelling or diving, using the complimentary shuttle service to Port Douglas and taking a boat ride out from there. Wildlife, tropical landscapes, exhilarating activities – it’s all within reach at Silky Oaks Lodge.
There are six choices of treehouses to choose from at Silky Oaks Lodge, all of which are set high up in the rainforest canopy on stilts. They have been designed to blend harmoniously with their surroundings and so feature polished wooden floors, nature-inspired artwork, colourful fabrics and large windows to maximise every lush view. Private verandas are appointed with armchairs and hammocks, while indoors you can expect to find iPod docking stations, air-conditioning, bathrobes and slippers, tea and coffee making facilities, ceiling fans and rain showers.
From the elevated dining space at Silky Oaks Lodge, you can admire the emerald waters of Mossman River trickling below while savouring meals and drinks in this open-air restaurant. Fresh fruit for breakfast, locally caught barramundi for dinner; and perhaps more adventurous diners would like to sample Australian meats like kangaroo or crocodile.
Sit at the Treehouse Bar or in its airy lounge with your favourite tipple, whether a chilled beer, glass of wine or perhaps a handcrafted cocktail; there’s also a wide selection of champagnes here too. Be sure to pop in between 3-5pm for your complimentary refreshments!
Activities and Entertainment
Silky Oaks Lodge has a raft of complimentary activities for you to enjoy during your rainforest escape, from mountain biking and hiking to canoeing and snorkelling. Head to the Billabong swimming hole where freshwater Turtles and the elusive Platypus might also keep you company. You can enjoy one complimentary yoga session during your stay, either in the pavilion or on the riverbank, and one guided hike at dusk too. Then, if you’ve enjoyed snorkelling in the Daintree, why not take advantage of the shuttle service to Port Douglas and spend a day exploring the Great Barrier Reef? This is just the beginning though, as you can also try excursions like birding and safari tours, zip-lining, 4x4 adventures, river cruises, Aboriginal experiences, hot air ballooning, fishing, helicopter rides… the list is almost endless!
Silky Oaks Lodge is surprisingly well-equipped when it comes to facilities, despite its rainforest setting. Aside from the yoga pavilion and fitness centre, it also boasts a tennis court, swimming pool, bikes, canoes, gift shop and launderette; Wi-Fi too. There’s even a spa where, on top of massages and beauty treatments you can indulge in Vichy therapies, hydrotherapy, and even treatments that draw on the healing waters of the Mossman River.
