With sea views and calming grounds, self-contained cabins with more amenities than most, and a fine onsite restaurant that’s both seasonal in its produce and locally sourced too, Stewarts Bay Lodge on the peaceful Tasmanian coastline, ticks all the luxury self-catering boxes.
This string of 40 self-contained, self-catering chalets are comfortable, modern and wonderfully well-equipped with their nicely furnished living rooms; kitchens that include all appliances and a washer/dryer; air-con; DVD players and a lovely veranda – many of which overlook the ocean.
If opting for a Deluxe Chalet, you’ll also get a spa bathtub, king-size bed and larger balcony too, though in truth – no matter which category you choose – each already provides everything you need. And, with cabins ranging from one to three bedrooms in size, Stewarts Bay Lodge is also great for couples and families alike.
The location of the lodge is another highlight, with all of Tasman Peninsula’s main attractions, the boat tours, wildlife walks, bays, beaches, coves and caves on your doorstep, with Port Arthur also very nearby.
Stewarts Bay Lodge actually sits within a private 22-acre expanse, meaning you’ll get the sea views, beach access, and BBQ and picnic areas here almost to yourself. Then when it comes to food, you have either the self-catering facilities within your chalet, the complimentary BBQs, or Stewarts Bay Lodge’s lovely sea view restaurant – Gabriel's on the Bay – which specialises in seafood, and locally sourced and seasonal produce. The alfresco terrace here is also tailormade for sunset drinks, though if visiting in winter then cosying up around the fireplace with a glass of Australian red is just as good!

Room Options
Stewarts Bay Lodge consists of just 40 individual, self-contained cabins that are wonderfully well-equipped with a fully functioning kitchen; nicely furnished living rooms; sea view terraces; and luxe bathrooms – most of which feature a jetted bathtub. TVs; DVD and CD players; a washing machine and dryer; electric blankets; king or queen-size beds; and air-conditioning also feature. They are dotted around the grounds so a nice sense of privacy also comes as part of the package, as does a modern yet modest interior design and with one, two or three-bedroom options available, these cabins are ideal for top-end independent trips to Tasmania whether travelling as a couple, group or family.

Gabriel's on the Bay
Though you do have all the facilities needed to cook in-cabin during your stay, Gabriel's on the Bay restaurant is a highly recommended alternative! An al fresco terrace that overlooks the grounds and ocean here is delightful, especially during warm evenings when you can tuck into freshly-caught-seafood dishes and other locally sourced cuisine, across a seasonal menu that takes inspiration from England to Asia.
Activities and Entertainment
Stewarts Bay Lodge couldn’t be better placed to explore all that the Tasman Peninsula has to offer, making this a real hub of outdoor activities and sightseeing tours. There are countless caves and coves to discover, while Port Arthur and various historic coal mines are also very close by. Other popular excursions here include the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park; Roaring Beach and Pirate’s Bay; the Tasman Arch; fun-filled boat tours plus plenty of scenic walks throughout the Tasman Peninsula; local farmers’ markets and dramatic Waterfall Bay (which doubles up as a picturesque coastal hike).
Facilities
Stewarts Bay Lodge is refreshingly straightforward when it comes to onsite facilities and services, preferring a back-to-basics approach that encourages less time lounging at the lodge, and more exploring the wider Tasmanian coastline. That said, the grounds, picnic/BBQ areas and tennis courts are very pleasant when you are spending downtime here; those sea views certainly never tire, and the helpful concierge team will also ensure any leisure days are easily filled with all sorts of outings and excursion suggestions.
