This Hotel is Ideally Located For Exploring Melbourne’s Landmarks, Including the MCG, Royal Botanic Gardens and Melbourne Park.
The distinctive and decorative Romanesque Revival-style façade of Hotel Lindrum is reflective of the architecture of Flinders Street and Flinders Lane during its heyday.
The building has a long and colourful history; formerly owned by Melbourne tea merchants the Griffiths Brothers, the building was a store and salesroom for teas, coffee and cocoa.
In the 1920s much of Flinders Street was occupied by newspaper group The Herald, and the building became printing headquarters of Verona Press and Herald Group subsidiaries. Between 1973 and 1988 the building became Lindrum’s Billiard Centre, before being transformed into the 59-room boutique Lindrum Hotel in 1999. Many aspects of the building’s heritage have been retained and incorporated into its modern-day design, including memorabilia lining the walls of the billiard-room.
The hotel offers an intimate ground floor dining room, Felt Restaurant, where breakfast is served daily and dinner six nights a week. The ever-popular and very English tradition of afternoon high tea is preserved at weekends, with a tiered stand of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, pastries and macarons. The Back Bar is a popular drinking spot for hotel guests and city workers alike, with comfy sofas, leather armchairs and fireplace. Adjacent is the Billiard Room, complete with an original billiard table from its days of being Lindrum’s Billiard Centre.
The hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the city of Melbourne, with restaurants and bars in easy walking distance, many of Melbourne's 'Hatted' Restaurants (the equivalent of Michelin Star) are located on Flinders Lane. Attractions such as:
- the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG),
- Royal Botanic Gardens and
- Federation Square
are all within walking distance. Flinders Street Station is a short walk from Hotel Lindrum, across the river from the station there are riverside cafes, restaurants and South Bank’s Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex on the banks of the Yarra River.
