You needn’t choose between an off-grid beach escape or wilderness safari in Western Australia, thanks to the incredible Sal Salis luxury tented camp, perched right in-between both.
The ocean lies immediately below Sal Salis and, within it, the enthralling Ningaloo Reef; a World Heritage Site which is fantastic for snorkelling and getting up close to myriad fish, Turtles, Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. Then, the other side of camp faces Cape Range National Park with its wild gorges, ancient bushland and native wildlife populating the land too. Daily hiking safaris take you out into this untamed landscape to spot beautiful birdlife, Kangaroos, Rock Wallabies and more; a wonderland for animal-lovers.
With this extraordinary location and amazing activities (included in your stay), there’s already a lot to love about Sal Salis. But add to the mix eco-friendly tents with spellbinding sea and bush views, decadent dining – even out here in such a remote spot – plus the chance to stargaze beneath a twinkling canopy and sleep out at night; you’ll soon learn why Sal Salis is the sort of place that elevates your experience of Australia to another level altogether.
Facilities

Accommodation Options
Sal Salis is completely committed to protecting the local environment, so each luxury tent is kept understated and energy waste is managed throughout. The tents are installed with wooden decks, cosy bedrooms with king-size or twin jarrah beds, and en suite bathrooms that feature compostable toilets. There is a designated water supply for each tent – 20 litres per person – so you need to manage how much you use each day. Don’t expect modern luxuries like TVs, Wi-Fi, phones or air-conditioning, but instead environmentally friendly toiletries, the cooling ocean breeze and a view like no other that more than compensates.

Restaurants

Few settings can compare to the raw beauty of Ningaloo Reef and the Cape Range National Park, so dining amidst this pristine landscape is a real pleasure. All meals, drinks and snacks are included in your stay, from a continental breakfast of pastries, bread, eggs, fruit and cereal, to a moreish BBQ lunch which is best enjoyed on the beach itself. You’ll also be treated to sunset canapes and drinks before sitting down for a three-course supper in the dining tent, paired with fine Western Australian wine or a choice of beer, spirits and soft drinks. It’s also worth mentioning that, although Sal Salis is indeed incredibly isolated, the team of chefs go above and beyond to create culinary masterpieces here in the wild: think pan-fried prawns with white wine and lemon sauce, pancetta-wrapped beef fillet and chocolate-almond torte; simply delicious.

Activities and Entertainment
Since the Sal Salis camp is sandwiched between the ocean and land, you get to discover the best of both worlds: from snorkelling with tropical fish to heading out on walking safaris. Plunge into the turquoise waters of Ningaloo Reef and watch the underwater world in all its glory: there are more than 500 types of fish, as well as 250 coral species and the chance to see Turtles too. This is also a great opportunity to go kayaking over crystal clear seas or try swimming with Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. Then, the Cape Range National Park is a mecca for land-based creatures like the Kangaroo, Rock Wallaby and Wallaroo, on top of 100 bird species that include the Fairy Wren, Honeyeater and Reef Heron. Head out on guided walks and listen as your guides tell you all about the ecology and geology of this incredible national park, soaking up the scenery of gorges, creeks and fossils in the process.
Facilities
Aside from the restaurant, Sal Salis has a small library with board games, and a lounge with self-service bar where you can help yourself to drinks throughout the day. Given the remote location and connection with nature, there are no TVs in sight; nor a Wi-Fi connection. However, the lodge does have a landline in case of emergencies.
