Close to Abel Tasman National Park, Edenhouse is an intimate hideaway bestowed with 50 acres of grounds and lush gardens, delicious dining offerings and just three beautifully designed guestrooms.
Edenhouse sets the blueprint for what true hospitality should be: warm, friendly and personal, and it’s precisely such attributes that have led this boutique New Zealand lodge to star on many a ‘top hotels’ list over the years.
Owners Peter and Bobbie have poured their passions into a 50-acre estate, creating some of the most beautiful gardens you will ever lay your eyes on (thanks to Bobbie’s decades of experience in garden design), as well as stylish but characterful interiors that make you feel as though you’re staying in a luxurious home, rather than a hotel.
This intimate atmosphere is enhanced by the fact that only eight guests can stay with Edenhouse at once, as there are just three accommodation options at the property. The Garden Cottage, Folly and Edenhouse Suite are all exceptionally-styled abodes offering lashings of privacy, complete with a mix of modern amenities and timeless décor schemes. And while hiding away in your cottage or suite may be all too tempting, the house itself has many corners to curl up in: particularly the living room, with its big comfy sofas and fireplace.
Another draw is, of course, Edenhouse’s enviable proximity to Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks, the artisan towns and boutique wineries peppered throughout this region of the South Island.
From kayaking and hiking to heli-tours and boat trips; horseback rides on the beach to canyoning, and of course wine tasting or art gallery visits; the scope for activity and adventure is simply endless, and Edenhouse is a delightful home to come back to each day.
When you do, be sure to request dinner here, as with so much natural produce abounding in the region – and that all-important New Zealand wine – it’s certain to be one of your most memorable experiences while staying at the charming Edenhouse.

There are just three options at Edenhouse, accommodating 6-8 guests in total for an exclusive feel. Each is generously appointed, with two bathrooms, a veranda, super king-size bed, minibar and air-conditioning, decorated in tasteful furnishings with a light colour scheme that makes it all feel effortlessly chic but comfortable at the same time. Antiques, fresh flowers, prints adorning the walls and views of the lush gardens ensure that each cottage, apartment or suite is a true delight to spend the night in.

The Edenhouse Suite
Only the freshest local fare is presented to guests dining at Edenhouse, as staff source it all from the generous natural surrounds: think mussels and oysters from the bay; asparagus, aubergine and apples then grown close to the lodge itself. Tuck into a hearty breakfast each morning, best enjoyed on the patio when the sun is out, and come back for a lovingly crafted meal later in the day, paired with fine New Zealand wines. There are more al fresco spots to seek out, or you can join fellow guests in the dining room or studio; it’s completely up to you, and the team will also be at your beck and call throughout.
Pre-dinner aperitifs and finger food is offered in the living room to guests of Edenhouse opting for the in-house supper; it comes highly recommended.
Activities and Entertainment
There’s no visiting Edenhouse without venturing into Abel Tasman National Park, a nature playground that never ceases to stir even the most seasoned of travellers. Go hiking, kayaking, snorkelling, wildlife-watching on Sea Lion safaris or discover it all by both boat and helicopter. Once you’ve had your fill of Abel Tasman, head west to the lesser-known Kahurangi National Park; the best way to experience it? On a heli-tour setting off from Edenhouse, soaring over the likes of Golden Bay, Mount Olympus, Wharariki Beach, Farewell Spit and other stunning sights. Farewell Spit is also a favourite spot for horse riding on the sand, though there are plenty of other equestrian trails to discover inland too. All this, as well as canyoning, biking, wine-tasting, art gallery visits, fly-fishing and more, can be enjoyed during your time at Edenhouse.
For a touch of pampering, request an in-room massage – whether reflexology, aromatherapy, acupressure or anything else – courtesy of nimble-knuckled beautician Jacqui. Be sure to then wander through the immaculate six-acre gardens, curated by owner Bobbie herself, and soak up the serenity-inducing scene of flowers, lawns and trees. With such a tranquil setting at your fingertips, no other distractions feel necessary.
