Fiordland Lodge

Tucked away on the shores of Lake Te Anau is Fiordland Lodge, the kind of luxury adventure accommodation that this wonderous landscape deserves.

Fiordland Lodge is no ordinary hotel, as everything here has been put in place, crafted and designed to first be of the utmost quality and standard, though secondly to simply let nature take centre stage. One side of the property is constructed almost completely of glass, allowing natural light and views of the striking, mountain-ringed Lake Te Anau to pour in, day and night.

The rest of the lodge follows suit and provides a memorable sense of place, from cosy armchairs cuddled up next to the fire, the exposed natural beams and tree trunk columns to the oversized windows in every room; it all adds up to create a real connection with the surrounding landscape.

Fiordland Lodge is an exclusive New Zealand property to be sure, something that is demonstrated to mouth-watering effect in the hotel’s fine dining restaurant. People travel from far and wide to eat here, whether staying at the lodge or not, and it is no surprise why. Seasonal ingredients are grown onsite and there is a passion for showcasing the best New Zealand ingredients, yet in an entirely contemporary, cutting-edge fashion where every plate or sharing platter is as remarkable to look at as to taste.

Ultimately though, booking a trip to the Fiordland National Park is, quite rightly, all about the surrounding scenery, and that’s where Fiordland Lodge really steps up. There is a fleet of private helicopters onsite, so daily sightseeing flights over Milford Sound, Mount Cook, Stewart Island or anywhere else are all easily arranged.

Then you have the kayaking on Lake Te Anau, wildlife walks, fishing, waterfalls to visit, hanging bridges, biking and hiking routes, boat trips, exciting caves and hilltop viewpoints to visit – the list really does go on.

Accommodation Options

Fiordland Lodge can accommodate just 27 guests, enhancing its exclusive feel. The décor throughout is delightfully simple: white walls, light wood furniture and exposed wooden ceilings, cream carpets, huge windows and a balcony for everyone. You’ll also get a king-size bed (twin if required), walk-in rain shower and a handful of mod-cons as standard, plus Lake Te Anau views, of course.

Similar to a Lodge Room in layout and size, the Deluxe Lodge Rooms are located on the second floor so benefit from superior lake views.
Executive Suite

With its own fireplace, separate lounge area, sofas, double walk-in rain showers and fantastic views to boot, the Fiordland Lodge Executive Suite is a classy choice.
Log Cabin

The standalone Log Cabin offers something special at Fiordland Lodge if looking for a little extra privacy and space. Great for families – thanks to two separate bedrooms – though also nicely romantic for couples, worth it for the extra outdoor space and views alone.

Restaurants

Cutting-edge fine dining cuisine can be savoured at the Fiordland Lodge Restaurant, as the very best New Zealand ingredients are transformed into plates of food that are a work of art in their own right. This is contemporary fusion cooking at its best, one of the most renowned restaurants in the region and made all the better thanks to the seasonal produce grown onsite, in the Fiordland Lodge kitchen-garden. Drinks can then be taken in the comfy lounge area.

Activities and Entertainment

Fiordland Lodge is all about the outdoor activities and adventure. This hotel was purpose-built to ensure that you see the best of Lake Te Anau and wider Fiordland region while here. First, there is a fleet of helicopters primed and ready for tours over Martins Bay, the spectacular Milford Sound and Stewart Island, among others. Then there are trekking trails and guided nature walks such as the famous Milford Track, biking routes, kayaking, fishing, hanging bridges to enjoy, boat trips, the Te Anau Glowworm Caves, lake cruises, photography safaris and so much more! For anyone who loves being amongst and exploring pristine landscapes in a range of different ways, Fiordland Lodge is hard to beat.

Facilities

Any lack of spa or gym at the Fiordland Lodge will probably go unnoticed during your stay, as all the exercise anyone could need is on your doorstep in the form of outdoor adventures, while the spellbinding scenery and sunsets are a wellness experience in themselves! An on-site organic garden here provides much of the produce served in the resort’s fine dining restaurant and, although you’ll find Wi-Fi, a concierge team and room service here, this lodge is less about in-room amenities and mod-cons. Instead, the focus is more on exploring the great outdoors, sightseeing and enjoying the sublime surrounding grounds such as an outdoor fireplace, patio and accompanying lake views.
