Mandarin Oriental, Canouan
Located on the tiny island of Canouan, which is just two miles long by a mile wide, Mandarin Oriental, Canouan is part of a stunning estate that seamlessly blends into three hundred lush island acres. It may be small but this island enjoys a long history, reflected by a beautifully restored 17th-century church situated at the heart of this resort, where you’ll also discover a stunning unspoiled seascape with secluded coves and beaches.
Accommodation options are as spacious as they are luxurious, ranging from romantic One Bedroom Beach Suites to impressive three-storey four bedroom lagoon villas with facilities such as a full-service kitchen and a private infinity pool that looks out to an incredible lagoon view.
There is plenty to do at this luxurious resort, whose Atlantic side is buffered by a coral reef that provides some of the Caribbean’s most diverse diving and snorkelling. There’s also a Jim Fazio-designed golf course, a luxury superyacht marina, and a sumptuous Spa to enjoy, while children will love the diverse activities on offer at Pirates Kids Club which has its own full-sized pool.
Dining is a delight. There are four restaurants, ranging from the family-friendly Lagoon Cafe which serves Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, to fine dining at one of two sophisticated restaurants, named Romeo and Juliet. At Romeo, you can enjoy pan Asian cuisine while watching your food be prepared through the open kitchen, or head to Juliet for European fine-dining while overlooking the reef-protected lagoon. Opt for a night-cap at Turtles to finish your evening off in style. Sample a cocktail from the extensive menu, while cool jazz plays in the background.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Canouan is a must-visit, with treatment suites on the water and in the hillside overlooking the ocean providing a picturesque and utterly peaceful escape. A retreat for both body and soul, the ESPA spa also offers guided yoga and meditation classes, as well as a fully equipped fitness centre.
