Evian Resort is a sprawling holiday destination in the French Alps, overlooking the shimmering waters of Lake Geneva from its enviable location in the spa town of Evian-Les-Bains.
Its proximity to the mountains makes it ideal to visit year-round: whether coming for the ski slopes of nearby Thollon-Les-Memises, Bernex and the Portes du Soleil (the latter boasting 600km of powdery pistes); or to enjoy more balmy temperatures through the rest of the year, with many outdoor adventures on your doorstep.
The Hotel Royal and Ermitage Hotel afford their guests access to Evian Resort’s impressive facility offerings. There’s the Evian Golf Club, with its 18-hole course set against the backdrop of Lake Geneva, two spas, tennis courts, various kids clubs, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, casino, concert hall and team of activity and culture specialists to help you get the most out of your stay, whether you want sporting experiences or to dip your toe into the artistic scene here.
Hotel Royal is the five-star option of the two, blessed with 150 rooms and suites – many flaunting views of Lake Geneva. This resort has a sophisticated feel thanks to its stately design and décor, immaculate gardens and elegant communal spaces. It’s also where you’ll find more of the resort’s amenities, including a Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by chef Patrice Vander and the Evian Source Spa, with a superlative hydrotherapy circuit and treatments; it’s also only accessible for guests of the Royal.
Meanwhile, Ermitage Hotel is the more rustic choice, awarded four stars rather than five but sporting its own fair share of highlights. The 80 rooms and suites are more muted in their style, although many do offer lovely lake views and balconies. This particular hideaway is great for families, providing plenty of entertainment and activities for children within the various kid's clubs: one for babies, another younger children, and teens too. From cookery to crafts, swimming to skiing, there’s so much they can get involved with. Adults are certainly not left out, however, particularly with the Ermitage’s Quatre Terres Spa: an eco-certified wellness centre, one of just three in France, which focuses on natural energies from clay, stones, crystals and earth to restore and rejuvenate.
So whichever of these two sublime Lake Geneva hotels it is, you simply can’t go wrong with a stay at the all-encompassing Evian Resort.

Go skiing in winter at the nearby resorts of Thollon-les-Memises and Bernex (both just 15 minutes away), or venture a bit further to the vast Portes du Soleil, making the most of the resort’s own ski boutique to rent or buy the gear you need. In the warmer months, you can take to the water for rafting, sailing, kayaking and fishing. Or, head into the skies above with a paragliding or helicopter tour. If you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground however, go hiking through the stunning mountains and admire views of the one and only Lake Geneva; it’s a breathtaking backdrop for all manner of walks and treks.
