From the outside, it’s a restored 12th-century monastery near the historic town of Pollença, while within, Son Brull Hotel & Spa is a cutting-edge Mallorca property that leaves nothing to chance on design, quality or comfort.
You may not believe your eyes when first stepping inside Son Brull Hotel & Spa, or indeed your guestroom or suite. On approach, you’re greeted by olive trees and gardens, traditional terracotta tiles, stone balconies and a pink pastel-wash façade – all of which paint the picture of a historic country estate, studded in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana.
In fact, the building was once a farmhouse back in the 12th-century, before becoming a monastery and 18th-century mill after that. Yet today, a contemporary Mallorca design hotel awaits within these walls, one that’s full of surprises at every turn.
From the edgy artwork and renovated rooms to the clever spotlighting, rain showers, uber-cool furnishings and infinity pools, Son Brull Hotel & Spa is unmistakably modern, and thoroughly luxurious with it. That contrast (given the building’s age and history) is a tough balance to achieve, though fear not, it combines to truly scintillating effect here.
The spa at Son Brull Hotel is the perfect example, a Japanese-inspired refuge of holistic massage, hydrotherapy rooms, pools, classes and relaxation rituals that rival any five-star retreat. Then there are the culinary marvels served up at 365 Restaurant and Bistró, Son Brull Hotel’s two world-class eateries; one of gallery-worthy fine dining dishes, the other a refined take on local Spanish favourites. The story continues through to the spacious whitewash guestrooms, and out onto the sundeck, infinity pool and gardens at Son Brull Hotel & Spa too, where the allure of a modern luxury hotel in Mallorca meets history and heritage with aplomb.

The Son Brull Hotel & Spa guestrooms and suites are all nice and airy (even the entry-level rooms thanks to a clever use of space), full of light, modern and well-equipped with plenty of in-room extras such as hydro-massage tubs, espresso machines, Bang & Olufsen speakers, a pillow menu, king-size beds and a minibar. As you move through the categories, certain suites then come with much larger floorplans, private gardens, Jacuzzis, terraces and pools, with a range of charming mountain and countryside views throughout.

Locally-inspired (and sourced) fare like you’ve never seen before comes courtesy of 365 Restaurant, an organic fine dining delight that is anything but showy in its décor, yet the food is utterly sublime. Think scorpion fish, rock mussels and sea lettuce to start, followed by crispy-skinned suckling pig with pumpkin and chestnuts. Or perhaps taste the best of the Med with a signature 10-course tasting menu; delicious.
Kaleidoscopic buffet breakfasts and mouth-watering Spanish favourites are served at Son Brull Hotel’s fantastic Bistró Restaurant. The gourmet menus here are thoroughly inventive, perfectly balanced and, if dining al fresco, joined by views of the surrounding countryside too.
Sip a signature cocktail and tuck into tapas surrounded by history here at the Son Brull Hotel Bar, housed as it is in the building’s 18th-century Old Mill.
Activities and Entertainment
You’re nicely placed to visit nearby Pollença while staying at Son Brull Hotel and Spa, either by bike or by car, as well as the Tramuntana Mountains and surrounding coastal nature reserve which are both great for a scenic horse ride or hike, even canyoning for those brave enough. Golfers visiting Mallorca then have two 18-hole courses (at Pollença and Alcanada) within touching distance of Son Brull. The hotel’s spa, pools and sun terraces can all too easily take centre stage while onsite, which is no bad thing. But yoga classes and tennis, wine tasting and cookery classes also help break up the sun dappled days between stints on the beach, long lunches and admiring Mallorca’s coastal views.
Superbly well-equipped, Son Brull Hotel and Spa treats lucky guests to that perfect mix of pampering for those who crave it, and plenty of onsite facilities for active types too. The onsite spa, for example, comes complete with a gym and heated pool, yoga and meditation classes, sauna and Hammam plus treatments, relaxation rituals and holistic therapies to match. There are then two delectable restaurants, an atmospheric bar in the old mill, tennis courts, bikes for hire and excellent concierge services when needed, plus children-friendly activities and clubs during summer months.
