Gal Oya Lodge

Gal Oya Lodge is nestled comfortably within 20 acres of private idyllic forest and shares its home with incredible vistas and rare indigenous species like the soaring white-bellied sea eagle and beautiful Asian elephants.

The lodge makes itself the ultimate escape for wildlife and nature enthusiasts by having the positioning of the stunning natural life that shares its forest home as the top priority at every opportunity.

Every eco-friendly room has been built from responsibly sourced natural products and has been designed to fit perfectly with their magnificent surroundings. Living under the grass roofs and timber walls at Gal Oya Lodge puts you at the heart of the beautiful Sri Lankan landscape.

The striking outdoor swimming pool is hidden by tall grasses and trees and appears like a mirage in the landscape of greenery. Here you can swim and unwind with the rugged mountains as a backdrop and the calls of rare birds sounding in the trees around you. The lodge’s restaurant also uses natural materials and locally sourced produce to put your taste buds in touch with the beauty beyond the hotel. Additionally, as Gal Oya doesn’t have Wifi, you will be constantly engaged with the topographical beauty of this off-the-beaten-track paradise and can totally switch off from everyday stresses.

The hotel supports the Jim Edwards Wildlife Research Centre, which runs numerous ongoing projects in collaboration with local and international conservation trusts and universities. Gal Oya Lodge also runs numerous eco-initiatives of their own, including the use of eco-kind cleaning products and lightbulbs, heating water through solar power and donating waste food to the local community. Rangers and lodge hosts are extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding Gal Oya National Park and can expand your mind and introduce you to the local tribes, indigenous species and the stunning sights of Sri Lanka’s untouched landscape.
