Step inside the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai and you are greeted by three wonderful things: the Forest of Lights, a beautiful light installation made up of two rows of trees; the warm, gracious smiles of hotel staff; and the scent of blended lily of the valley, mandarin and wood, a signature fragrance from this esteemed resort group.
This serene ambience extends throughout the hotel, from the elegant bar and restaurant spaces to the capacious guestrooms, which number 256 in total and make for totally sumptuous abodes.
On top of the Mandarin Oriental’s sophisticated stylings, you can also expect mesmerising views of the sea from one side of the hotel – enjoyed from the outdoor terraces, swimming pools and many guestrooms – then skyline vistas from the other. You can while away the hours by devouring Portuguese cuisine at Tasca, sipping cocktails from the pool bar, luxuriating in the spa or trying out the caviar bar, Beluga, which is an experience not to be missed. And as tempting as it is to stay all day long in this heavenly place, the attractions of Dubai are never far from reach, including the beaches, shops and restaurants of Jumeira.
The 256 rooms and suites at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira are elegantly designed in silver or bronze hues, accented with a touch of teal here and there to reflect the sparkling Arabian Gulf lying just beyond the hotel. Each guestroom looks out over either the Dubai skyline or the sea, with floor-to-ceiling windows starring in all rooms and balconies in many of them. The accommodation at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira also comes well-appointed, bedecked as they are with deep-soak tubs and separate rain showers, twin sinks, flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, plus toiletries by Natura Bissé.
Tasca is a gorgeous restaurant with indoor and outdoor spaces overlooking the pool/ sea and skyline, offering menus dreamt up by Michelin-starred chef José Avillez, who draws inspiration from his homeland to create mouth-watering Portuguese cuisine for lunch and dinner (plus a decadent brunch on Fridays). Be sure to pair your meal with an exquisite bottle of wine – Tasca flaunts the largest Portuguese wine menu in Dubai.
Settle in for a lip-smacking Japanese dinner at Netsu, which not only dishes up delectable sushi and sashimi, but also delicacies cooked Warayaki style over a straw fire that’s on full display in the open kitchen. You can choose to dine indoors or out on the terrace by candlelight where there’s also a cocktail bar. Ask the Sake Sommelier for their top recommendations, choose from 70 labels on the wine list, or have the bartender whisk you up a Japanese cocktail.
You’ll be spoilt for choice at The Bay, a versatile restaurant and bar serving cuisine that spans the globe, from South American ceviche to Middle Eastern beef kebab with aubergine and bulgur wheat. When looking where to drink or dine, take your pick from two outdoor terraces, the bar, an inviting lounge and indoor tables, and enjoy a tempting, diverse menu.
Stop by for light breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea at the lobby lounge, Noor, at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira. There are interesting twists on classic coffee to try, such as the Persian iced latte with rose and cardamom-infused milk or hibiscus black coffee, as well as mocktails, fragrant teas and sweet delicacies like saffron milk cake and blueberry cheesecake.
This pool bar is open all day to provide refreshments and snacks while you relax on a sun bed. Order a beer, cocktail or mocktail and nibble on Asian tacos or grilled prawns, and don’t forget that the dedicated pool butlers are on hand to polish your sunglasses, top up your water or deliver avocado lime ice cream.
Stop by this deluxe patisserie and take your pick from a tantalising array of chocolates, cakes, pastries and other treats to sample. Try the Cocomango, made with coconut sponge, mango marmalade, dacquoise and coconut mousse, or the Touchoco, with chocolate sponge, cremeaux mousse and Chantilly, among many other delicacies.
For something totally different, head to Beluga at Mandarin Oriental, a bar specialising in all things caviar. Try the tsarine potato with Russian Oscietra caviar; warm scallop carpaccio with sour cream, green coulis and Imperial caviar; or perhaps the red carabinero tartare with salmon caviar. There are also caviar-infused cocktails to sample, a creative caviar afternoon tea, and plenty of champagne too.
