The Algonquin Resort
The Algonquin Resort is St. Andrews first seaside resort, having originally opened in 1889. In 1914 most of the hotel’s original wooden building was destroyed by fire, and was rebuilt in its current Tudor Style architecture and re-opened in 1915. Restorations of the hotel over the years have preserved the grandeur and history of the Algonquin Resort and evokes an ambiance of timeless elegance.
The resort offers 233 elegantly appointed accommodations, ranging from standard guest rooms to Bay View Rooms, Patio Rooms and a selection of Junior and One Bedroom Suites.
St Andrews is one of New Brunswick’s premier seaside resorts and is also popular with golf enthusiasts. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to the historic 18-hole Algonquin Golf Course, where you can also find the Clubhouse Restaurant with its commanding sea views.
There are several leisure facilities available to Algonquin Resort guests including a well-equipped fitness centre, indoor pool with waterslide, outdoor heated pool and bicycle rentals, as well as a full-service spa offering a range of body treatments and therapies including Ayurvedic, body scrubs and massages. A popular pastime is to just sit and relax in the beautifully manicured gardens.
Braxton’s Restaurant and Bar is the hotel’s signature restaurant, specialising in local seafood. There are also several excellent restaurants and tea houses within easy walking distance of the hotel.
St. Andrews-by-the-Sea is worthy of a few nights’ stay so that you can enjoy the beautiful setting and some of the activities on offer - such as whale watching on Passamaquoddy Bay, a stroll through the impressive Kingsbrae Garden or a summer’s day spent at the sheltered beach at Katy’s Cove.
