The futuristic and bold architecture of Fogo Island Inn is almost as dramatic and breath-taking as its location. Set on the rocky Northeast Coast of remote Fogo Island, this minimalist luxury Inn is a marriage of old and new building techniques, with rooms perched on stilts above jagged terrain and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame spectacular ocean and sky views.
Fogo Island Inn comprises 29 spectacular suites with wooden floors, underfloor heating, custom-designed wallpaper, hand-crafted furniture and brightly coloured quilts by local Fogo Island artisans. The suites are spread across four storeys, with first floor suites providing a connection with the rock and sea and fourth floor suites featuring soaring ceilings and wood burning stoves. Guests here can step outside to the roof terrace for star gazing or relax in the rooftop sauna.
The dining room is your window to the edge of the wild North Atlantic, encased in full-height glass windows and with vaulted ceilings. Here you can watch icebergs bobbing on the water or the full force of winter storms rolling in while enjoying creative dishes inspired by locally grown produce and fresh caught seafood. In season, whales can also be spotted breaching out at sea.
A Fogo Island Inn holiday isn’t just about the spectacular architecture, luxurious accommodation and exceptional food and service; it’s also about gaining an insight in to life on this remote but accessible island. The activities and adventures available at Fogo Island Inn showcase the island’s diverse flora and fauna, with unique wildlife experiences from spotting Atlantic puffins and caribou to taking to the water in search of seals and whales.
Direct from the hotel there are over 125-miles of paths and hiking trails taking you over rugged terrain, where wildflowers and berries carpet the island in late summer through to Autumn. Fogo Island has seven unique seasons; warm summers and spectacular ice season, snowy winters and temperamental falls. Whenever you travel, there is always an abundance of seasonal activities to embark on. In Spring watch icebergs float by and spend evenings around a bonfire, brave the waters for an ocean swim in the summer, which is also the season you’ll spot those majestic whales not far from the shore. During the late Autumn, watch epic waves crash on the rocks outside, created by North Atlantic gales and watch stars from the rooftop hot tubs. Fogo Island becomes a winter wonderland in ‘ice season’ when you can ice skate, snowshoe and snowmobile.
Fogo Island’s nearest airport is Gander in Newfoundland or can it be accessed by a 45-minute ferry ride from Farewell on Newfoundland's main island followed by a 17-mile drive.
