Immerse yourself in the heritage of this historic harbour town, which offers a warm, down-to-earth welcome and plentiful helpings of delicious, fresh seafood too.

Picturesque Pictou is a harbour town with countless charms, and a perfect stop whilst on a tour of Nova Scotia. Explore the town on foot by following the Trans Canada Trail, which leads from downtown out onto the historic harbourfront.

Still an active harbour, Pictou is a great place to head and see Nova Scotia from the water, whether you’d like to hire a kayak and trace the shoreline or take a boat trip further out.

As you can imagine, seafood takes top billing in the local cuisine here. If you’re visiting over summer, why not try to time your trip with the Pictou Lobster Festival. During this three-day event the town comes alive with live music performances, parades and, of course, plenty of delicious lobster too!

History buffs will be keen to learn about the ships that docked here in the 1770s, bringing Scottish immigrants to what would become ‘Nova Scotia’ (new Scotland), and, of course about the indigenous Mi’kmaq inhabitants who preceded any European settlers by hundreds of years.
